Savinho

I always found that a false economy, spending money and loads of it has only worked for the successful clubs, in large because of their ability to spend it again if those they spend large on failed.

We couldn't and still can't afford that level of mistake, so for all the hype and TBH I am excited with this season, the large spending on the 2 CM and CB have to work, for us they just have to.

For me its always been about the right player, not the right money spent in the grand scheme. BTW before anyone jumps on that and gets the wrong end of the stick, I am delighted we are securing the players the manager wants with the money and ambitions they are using to spend it, but they still have to be the right players, if they are then the money parted with matters not a jot
I get it Marty... you're not one of those fans 😉

We have spent money in the past, on 3 x 25M -40M players instead of 1 x 100M player. So far our net spend is behind last 3 summers.

The stadium is working as planned, we can afford a miss or two, we couldn't in the Covid years, the stadium build years.

Yeah I think this mentality of worrying what would happen if a singing doesn’t work out is what holds us back. I don’t want to mortgage the future of the club; and I trust the people in charge aren’t doing that. And so we need to start acting like the club with the stadium, revenues and profile that we have.

Otherwise, it’s impossible to have a football strategy. No deal will ever be perfect and so we don’t get exactly who the manager wants. That manager inevitably fails or gets frustrated and we have to restart the cycle,

I believe it’s possible to be sustainable and be more aggressive. I really like what we are doing.

This could well be true and I have to say City’s stance on Savinho fascinates me.

We clearly want him, they clearly don’t want him that much by how much they play him, and yet despite us being willing to be bigger spenders now, this deal has taken much longer to do.
i know pre season isn't indicative of anything, however savinho has been getting a lot of minutes and freedom to strut his stuff. i believe that Emirates Marketing Project genuinely do not want to lose him, however, there is plenty of evidence sav wants the move (transfer request, social media shenanigans).

That wasn't the point I was making and I am not worried

I imagine he was given a promise of minutes last year and that never happened, so he wants off

I think it's simply we butted up against a moment where we have to sell to be able to spend some more. Spence and Romero sales will unblock that pipe. (That obviously goes for any purchases)

Yep it seems pretty clear that we burnt through the capital that was injected by the owners this summer with the early spending and now we’re in a position of having to sell to fund new buys, hence the business slowing down and looking very much like how we’ve always operated. If only they pumped in money each summer under the other guy…
