I doubt it, nobody in government have any commercial vision or nous. They'll end up selling it but being responsible for its maintenance and repairs.
Manchester politicians got it right with the Etihad, fully convert an athletics stadium to a football stadium and I believe City are responsible for any maintenance and expansions, Manchester Council just collect the rent.

London listened to Seb Coe too much he wanted an athletics meeting once a year at the taxpayers stadium , they have a 50 year agreement so not sure how the place can be sold.

I thought the Etihad could still be used for Athletics as they had removable tiers? Has that changed now

I don't think that plan for London was bad, its just they bent over for West Ham and its become a dreadful deal

No athletics possible at the football stadium according to "know everything Google" but there is a track next to the Etihad..

If only we had a Manchester politician running the UK , the future might be good . :)

Athletics events are still hosted right next door. The original warm-up track used for the 2002 Games was upgraded by Emirates Marketing Project Council and Sport England. It is now the Manchester Regional Arena, a dedicated 6,000-seat track and field stadium located on the broader Etihad Campus

The Etihad probably could be converted to host athletics for a major games. For the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Hampden Park had a temporary raised platform for an athletics track.

The biggest problem with the Olympic Stadium is that it was designed with a permanent inner core, which would be used for a legacy athletics stadium, and temporary outer stands to boost capacity for the Olympics. With the changed plans, they replaced the permanent core with retractable stands and kept the temporary outer parts.
