World Cup 2026: Mexico, USA and Canada

Sonny or MvdV might be able to score from this position camped on the edge of their own area but even in his prime Kane never had the pace to do that sort of thing and with no wide attacker left of the pitch for most of final quarter we were utterly toothless.

we didn't need him to score, we needed him to help stop them scoring, 99% of a forwards job is pressing, and he didn't press

in that still, he's the 9, he should be sprinting to close the ball down, as Roy Keane would say, thats his job

Kane hasn’t had the legs to press relentlessly for 90+ minutes for many years and should’ve come off for someone fresher.

We’d have been better off with Solanke if all Tuchel intended to do was cling on for the final quarter.

then he shouldn't have been on the pitch

I dunno about Solanke

If only Richie was English, he'd have been the guy

Might be alone.

But I thought Pickford was weak for thier first goal.

Middle of the goal and decent height.

Should have saved it

going through bodies, no pressure on the shot, had enough time to have a cup of mate and work out the perfect angle, I'd have scored from that opportunity

should have been someone marking him from the corner

My take on it

THE BEST TEAM WON

If I was clutching at straws, I could build an argument that the early yellow cards in the first phase of the game could have stopped the significant shift in momentum in the next phases. We simply cannot have referees ignoring the laws of the game at any level of football. That massive issue in the game was on show again tonight unfortunately. It still needs fixing.

As for the game itself, super proud of Djed and Romero. Great to see Spurs players in a semi-final of a WC and both were right up there with the best players on the pitch. England got a lesson tonight on what you do off the ball rather than what you do on it. The Argies gave us a football lesson in how to pass and MOVE. They also taught the English how to play in a fluid formation and left us chasing the ball.

I'm not down on Tuchel actually. I think he has instinctively understood the limitations of this England side and his players. He therefore tries to win in a way that most suited our players....and it nearly worked. We have to keep him in situ for the Euro's. Giv him a chance to refresh the squad a little and nurture the team.

As for Messi.....GOAT.

Yet another semi-final has come and gone, and once again Kane hasn't turned up. The game just seems to pass him by when it matters most.

People will say England didn't attack or create enough, but Kane is supposed to be one of our creative players. He's the closest thing we have to a technical playmaker, a technician, so he has to take some responsibility too.

For all his quality, I don't think he has that killer instinct or the relentless, never-say-die mentality you see from so many Argentina players, for example.

At this point, I genuinely think England might have a better chance of winning a major tournament after Kane retires.

A word on Messi, anyone who knows me will know how much I love the man, he was a joy to watch again even if it was against us. He doesn’t need to score to impact a game.

Without Kane you were out in the round of 32 vs DR Congo. It's insane how it's always his fault. What's he supposed to do without the ball? All these complaints about how he doesn't press etc...that's not what he's good at!! He's a striker who lives around the box and only needs a half chance to put a team away.

And the players.

Pickford, Anderson, Rodgers did well, the rest of them were brick.

Rice and Spence had good first halves but kept bricking themselves in the second, their mistakes contributed to the momentum change.

Kane was the worst of the lot, like playing with 10, how many times in that last 20 did we see him jogging, JOGGING, rather than putting a press on, fudging disgraceful performance from him, again.

Rodgers continually allowed himself to be out-muscled.
Rice? I'd say if he was at 60% fitness that'd be lucky. Tuchel's a macaron for bringing Mainoo and then not trusting him.
What mistake did Spence make which contributed to momentum shift?
Kane? Ineffective game, easily marked out of it, however Tuchel not doing anything to help serve him.

Basically this.

I think people questioning why England went defensive after the goal have been a bit circumspect and realise that the goal woke Argentina up and made them press high. As much as England looked ok pre the goal, they weren't actually creating any chances I think the goal was literally the only shot up to that point.

The pattern of the game was similar to the Mexico and Norway games, when faced against a superior midfield England massively struggle to play around them. There's no dictator, our passing is so bread and butter. Loon at how Argentina played through the lines and into tight spaces.

The truth for me is I don't think England actually could attack in the 2nd half and the pressure wasn't invited, it was forced.

Rice was dead on his feet.
Tuchel didn't trust Mainoo.
He also didn't trust Rashford. I can only assume Saka was pretty injured.
I thought his midfield selections squad-wise were average at best, and knowing that Rice was playing hurt makes them even harder to understand.

Unmarked on the edge of box, unpressured, all that time and space, it was a tap in.

Awful lazy defending.

It was precisely the area you don't leave open. Equally, DePaul was finding crossing angles time and time again despite the 'defensive changes' which appear to have confused us more than helped...

I noticed a couple of our players throwing their arms up almost in disbelief when the subs were made.

I saw a clip of Harry’s post match interview and he was clearly, if subtlely, criticising Tuchel.

Edit - I’m quite behind things and just catching up but just seen Bellingham’s comments. Players clearly not happy with the tactics/suns.
