Wonder which nation Martinez will destroy next.
Or as repayment of debt from Belgium for liberation services in WW2What are the odds of them getting reinstated due to a "scoring mistake"? I'm only half joking, I wouldn't put anything past that effing little gnome Infantino. Shades of the 1936 Olympics....
The Mexico result was a very good one, the performance was good and to win against them in that stadium was an achievement.
However, I'm seeing a lot of "best result ever", "best away performance ever" type of statements.
Are England going slightly overboard on a victory over a good but not great Mexico side?

Fair bit of it online. BBC article linked above drives at it.Where are you seeing these??
Think it is a little OTT but also has to be up there for one of the best performances away (possibly even just generally). Unable to acclimatise and not allowed to just rock up 8 hours ahead or anything so worst possible preparation for altitude. Mexico, ranked as a top 10 side internationally, a difficult team to beat at home. Wasn't stylistically great but there was shape and substance to the England set up that has been missing for a long time.
I'm not sure what performances in the last decade or even this century come close to that. It is sort of the Ince head bandaged game in Italy in 1997 equivalent.
It was impressive they overcame the conditions without doubt. Altitude is a factor in football games, Ecuador and Bolivia's home records would attest to that. However, Rooney and Hart did say on Sunday that despite a lot of talk of it in 2010, they didn't really feel any effects from it.I am seeing alot too, loads of ex pros, loads of twitter with it.
TBH I think some are getting wrapped up on the fever, which is fine, I think some are young, so didn't even see us in Germany give them a shelacking.......
I think given the context, the conditions, them being hosts etc, its def up there in terms of WC performances, the best ever, well thats up to people to debate, I will just enjoy it till we get knocked out by Norway haha
The Beeb did a "best of aways" and TBF, there are not many of note https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cgevv1r30w1o

True. I heard the panel and presenter on TVFTL talk about a potential title tilt for us next season. In fairness, they were saying it isn't likely but top 4 very much is. To be mentioning us in relation to the title or top 4 in public is crazy after two 17th placed finishes. But I did find myself dreaming...much like when Ireland beat Portugal and Hungary last year.Football fans getting carried away, never.
England do it, but so does just about everyone.
On the march with allys army and the like.

I guess we're all guilty of it, it's part of the fun of supporting a team.
Must have been torture for Kandi1977 supporting us all these years

Mexico are a good side, they play lovely football. Technically, they are excellent and I enjoyed watching them. But they aren't France. England were the bookies favourites beforehand. The game also veered into unusual territory when England went to 10 and just packed the box for the last 15 minutes. That won't happen in most games.
I don't want to tinkle on the result or performance. I really enjoyed the game and England did well to win. But I look at, say, the 4-1 win over The Netherlands in 1996, the semi-final v West Germany in 1990, the 5-1 away to Germany and they were all better performances IMO. England will still need to be better than they were on Sunday if they want to win this tournament.

So you agree it was one of the best performances in the last 30 years then?
