Djed Spence

In those one on one situations where he is genuinely elite yes. But it’s also rare to see full backs gettting consistently ruined at top level these days. Go look at the best dribblers in the world and it will be 3 successful ones a game and your in the top 10%.

But plenty of times they’ve got away from him when he’s meat to be marking them and scored.

It's a real shame that the art of dribbling or just being a bit more direct and going past them is dying out, game is more inverted wingers and pull backs now but I'm sure chalk on the boots wingers will make a comeback eventually. I miss the days of Bale and Lennon for us and even Robben and Duff etc consistently taking on their full backs.

Confident, black, and in Djed's case, Muslim.

Don't underestimate how much that gets some people's backs up.
I don’t know about that mate. I don’t know anyone that has a bad word to say about Mo Sala on the pitch, no adversity shown to any of the previous spurs Muslim players like mido, Naybet, Chadli etc ….

He just has a certain attitude and look (not race) that seems a little annoying. So if not performing people pick up on that.

The boy has ability, just needs more application. He’s not as good as his public persona comes across. That’s all it is.

But I get your point, some people don’t like it when players cite any religion as their fortune for becoming a professional athlete. A minority.

Not that I can speak on behalf of @DubaiSpur but I’ve definitely seen abuse online because DJed is a Muslim playing for England and how it shouldn’t be allowed yada yada

Mo is an Arab. He isn't black. There's a difference in how players are treated.

I’m not sure most people were huge fans of Roy Keane or Joey Barton during their playing days. 😀

I take your point, but it’s not always about race.

They were just pure scumbags on the pitch and off it in Barron's case.

Died gets it for not smiling and having confidence. Same with Jude. There's a genuine difference which is hard to explain beyond it being racial in my view.

I think some of it is related to him blanking one manager on the pitch and then sarcastically tapping another on the shoulder when substituted off.

Black players whose natural disposition isn't smiley/happy do appear to rub people up the wrong way

Easier to criticise people who are not acting like you, things that seem alien to you. Like I said the other day, I think alot of whats labelled at Spence, from say his interview, is because those with negative points to say wouldn't associate with those personalities in real life. "ohh he came over arrogant" "ohhh its the fake roadman act" etc etc

People were saying things well before Djed had even kicked a ball with us though. "there must be a reason, it must be his attitude" under Conte was a regular call on here.

Without going through the history of the whole sport, I am sure there have been plenty of players in the world who have ignored their manager after a bad loss, especially a manager 2/3 of the support base absolutely hated so probably speaks more about what was happening in the club at the time, esp as a second player did the exact same thing at the same time

Which is his prerogative and like I said he doesn’t need to apologise for it whatsoever. He is who he is and is allowed to express himself any which he pleases. But in the same token you cannot expect people to take to him like Harry Kane, Som etc.

As abhorrent as Joey Barton is he too is entitled to his dim views, it’s about freedom of speech and accountability. If people don’t take to Djed spence due to his personality then it is what it is … you are not going to be liked by everyone all the time.

I just wish he applies himself better on the pitch because no one is doubting his potential and skill set.
