Lucas Bergvall

Not including the players who were well on the way to being superstars before we sold them (Modric and Bale). How many young players (and just players in general) have we let go of and regretted it because they turned out to be world class? I can’t remember a single one in the last 15-20 years.

I trust the system.
We have a different CEO now. One with no football background (Levy had at least worked at Rangers/Slavia/AEK before coming to us)

They are selling our brightest assets for quick cash, rather than trying to build something

Bergvalls done fine. The issue has been the squad building around him. Good luck to him.

We should be getting £100M for him and Vuskovic combined. For an outlay of £25M total. Not bad but it feels like it’s happend inadvertently rather than by design.
Doesn't hide the fact that other clubs do it better with less drama. But I agree, profit and move on. We have more important matters like having the quality to consistently compete in Europe. Every squad place has to be competitive, time to get ruthless and climb the table.

I’d much rather have players who can come into the team and improve us rather than waiting on youngsters to reach their potential and fighting relegation every season. They are not going to be starters here which means they will not develop here.

Not sure where this idea is coming from that we need to sell Bergvall to get in funds. He is the one that requested the transfer, meanwhile we have put in a large bid for a better player. RDZ hasn't really used him and assuming we get in uogrades he would get even less time. Over 4 managers he played 1,465 minutes for the season which is just over 16 games.

It makes sense for the club and player to sell, not out of necessity for needing funds but natural evolution of player turnover - You can't keep everyone happy....

Or the other way around...club leaking moves because crown jewels are going
When will you lot accept we are not an attractive club anymore
You and @Gutter Boy really take the biscuit my friend

Interesting that RDZ never, to my recollection, name-checked Bergvall or his importtance. I guess your classification of our crown jewels and that of our coach may not be exactly aligned...

Vinai did work at The Woolwich for 14 years, also served with the European Clubs Association so probably knows more about football than a certain Simon Jordan that so many seem to look up to, at least Spurs haven't gone into administration yet :) :) :) :)

How did Bergvall go from player of the year in a trophy winning season to not being good enough to improve us? I think Frank playing Bergvall as a number 10 created an impression that he is a number 10. He isn't. He is an 8.

I hope he gets moved on just cos I really like him as player and want to see how he develops. Same applies to Archie Gray. I can see him wanting to move next summer cos I don't think RDZ fancies him either if Gallagher is a starter, and we after Tonali.

I've watched enough football and for long enough to know that age doesn't mean a great deal. Everyone seems to be talking as if progression in some linear line so if he's "here" at 18bthen he will be "here" at 25 and we both know it absolutely doesn't work like that. Some players progress steadily, some stay at the same level and some regress.

How any player will turn out is debatable , for me I've actually seen some of elite players at 17 - 21 and they tend to already posses many if not all of the attributes that end up making them who they are already. Bergvall for me seems a good prospect but the way the hype is you would think he's absolutely guaranteed to be WC and that I just don't see.
Fully agree
I do wonder if last year he had second season syndrome with us, which imo a lot of young players have
But that doesn’t mean he is gonna get better and better

6 - Bentancur & Fernandes
8 - Tonali & Gray
10 - Gallagher & Maddison

Vinai isn't our CEO. The randomer from Charrington Breweries is

In amongst the deadwood departures this summer it feels like there's going to be some painful ones too. Bergvall is a great prospect but if we do sign tonali or Hernandes or both (which I think is unlikely) then he's unlikely to get a look in.

I'd move mountains to keep both Bergvall and Gray this summer, and would prefer to move out some of the more experienced players, but realistically that may not be possible.

Seems youth is not high on the De Zerbi priority list, which means we are once again about to move to the polar opposite philosophy in a couple of seasons - Vuskovic, Moore, Gray, Tel, Odobert, Bergvall, Souza, have all been bought (or developed) with their future ability in mind. In RDZ is committed to buying ready made players then most of the above are going to struggle for game time.

I think I understand the direction, but I am not sure I want to clear out the young prospects, I'd rather have them ready to learn and be blooded behind the first team.
