João Palhinha

palhinha is such a conundrum for me.

great engine and destroyer but is so focused he doesn't have the ability to create once in possession.

however when he is focused on scoring, does so so naturally and instinctively.

maybe he is OCD and is locked in at whatever task at hand. usually CBs and strikers are like that.

much as i think that he is NOT the midfielder we need - we need quick transitions if we are pressing high and hard, I do appreciate that he has given his heart, mind and soul and demonstrated some inspiring perseverance and wonderful goal scoring ability that made spurs a little better to watch this season.

He does what’s needed. Wins the ball back, passes to a team mate and lets those gifted make the most of our possession. We need someone like him that can lead from the middle, that does the ugly work and has true passion for what we’re about. That he can chip in with goals too is a bonus.

As long as we add proper creativity, I'd say we absolutely do. Depth. And competition. And options for injuries.
We've got no European football next season, we should use this as a chance to reset that midfield area as the stress on the squad should be less

Gallagher / Bents / Pal are all pretty limited - put Gray into the mix and we have 4 of the same kind of player

If pushed, Id keep Pal/Gallagher/Gray and sell Bent

His goals have saved our bacon a few times this season. His never say die attitude drives us on. This boy is my player of the season and I hope he stays even if his playing time needs to be managed.
Same for me. Nobody deserves it on the course of the whole season anyway but Palinha, despite having objectively less reasons to care than most of our players, scored the goals that kept us up. Just look at Kolo Muani - who's way more talented as a football player -, think about what would have happened if Palinha had the same attitude.

His winning goal at Wolves was a huge moment for us. Is he limited? Yes, for sure. But when we needed people to step up, he was there and if he wants to join us after that, I think he deserves to be signed.

The top 3 tacklers in the EPL this season:
1. James Garner played 2,874 minutes and made 107 tackles

2. João Palhinha played 1,779 l minutes and made 106 tackles (playing 1095 less minutes).

3. Tyrick Mitchell played 3,210 minutes making 103 tackles.

I've no clue who should stay or go. Can make a case for all of them. Personally, I love Bentancur as a footballer but appreciate that many don't. I like Sarr and Pahlinha too but I also know we need better quality and that means one or more of the current midfielders have to go. That's for RDZ to decide and I'm happy to trust whatever he decides.

As for Pahlinha, fair play to him. Been a good pro. I heard people questioning if he'd care enough given he was on loan. He certainly did.
