ENIC

I actually think some of what ENIC are now saying and doing in terms of loosening the wage structure is actually very important and over a long enough time periods is going to start to bear fruit. I think Levy’s time had come and he was holding us back. I also think whoever it was in the Lewis side who decided to go all out to get De Zerbi deserves some fairly big credit.

That said, heads need to roll for the appointment of Frank and the decision to stick with him. It was a complete and utter disaster that very nearly ended in catastrophe.

I actually see the logic when you look at what this league now is. It’s set pieces, it’s direct play, it’s VAR, and it sucks. But teams still need to be able to press and have a plan to play out from the back. And managers still need to have some level of charisma. Frank was found massively wanting tactically and had none of the core leadership attributes to be successful with us. An utterly disastrous appointment.

The owners also seriously need to sort out the injury situation. Because it is also ridiculous. 2 years in a row to suffer an unprecedented crisis…how does it even happen? It’s mad.

Overall I think that they have much of the right diagnosis of what needs to happen to move the club on. But until the De Zerbi appointment they had made not one single good footballing decision. And it’s going to take some to earn trust back for their leadership.

Appointing Frank was a disaster.
Shunting Levy when they did and the way they did was a disaster.
Their inability to read rooms and connect with supporters has been a disaster.
The only thing they've got right was shutting the f uck up since De Zerbi has come in.
The single biggest questions and evaluations need to happen in their rarified cheese rooms.
I still get palpably angry when I see Lange and Venkatesham, however the Lewis family need to show up too.

It’s actually incredible. I was thinking today how negative it was around the club in the late 90s and early 2000s. It was the sense of drift, of proper mid table mediocrity. And yet…never was there a season as bad as this. To not be safe on the final day. And to do it with a way better squad that we ever had back then.

Something has gone seriously seriously wrong to have this season have happen. And I think because we’ve all been ‘in it’ we haven’t fully comprehended how mental it is to even be in the position. It’s crazy.

I cannot wait for the comments from the owners, from Vinai, from Lange, to explain this. Not buck passing PR placement, I want some actual genuine accountability. And one thing that is good about this era of social media and institutions being ‘closer’ to their fans / customers / voters, is that people expect authenticity and the smart institutions give it. They have an opportunity here to explain, take genuine accountability, and hold their hands up. And maybe earn back some trust for however long they need to sell the club.

Raphael Moersen is coming in which will take the football side of Vinais role away from him and then Kehl as DofF so Lange is back to glorified youth scout which he’s actually decent at.

I’d rather they both get sacked tomorrow but they are not gonna be that close to the 1st team anymore.

Yeah, I do see how a lot of this season boils down to putting Vinai and Lange in positions they shouldn’t really be in, and how replacing Levy the way they did puts them in that position because it created a vacuum.

Vinai doesn’t know the club, and didn’t have enough football people around him. He gave Arteta patience and thought he could do the same here with Frank. At Arsenal he had better football people around him and here he only had Lange.

Lange, who doesn’t have the experience to be a true Sporting Director. Leading a data driven scouting set up, sure. He seems good at that. But making critical decisions about the strategic direction of the club and the first team…nope. He may well also have been compromised by his prior relationship with Frank and let that get in the way.

What I can’t understand is why no one was going to the players and asking what they thought. Maybe there was the intention to reduce player power in this new structure and that’s why they didn’t. All in all though it lead to disaster.

Vinai and Lange have some culpability and could have made better decisions. But they should never have been in the positions they were put in.
