Cristian Romero

Seems like I'm the only one not bothered by this?
I really appreciate this has made me irrationally angry - a relegation battle has seemingly done that to me / I’ve allowed it to - but I’d be really interested in your view why it doesn’t bother you.

Is it that you think it’s poor but it doesn’t ‘affect’ you - might reflect some of the recent conversations about Spurs impacting your health, which I’d applaud - or you don’t think it’s a poor reflection on Romero?

Genuinely interested in your view here @tommysvr

To be honest, he did a lot more damage when he (apparently) turned up late for training in my opinion. He's a quality player (although I still think he'd be a much better defensive midfielder) and I share some of his comments about the owners but at this point, he's as good as gone, and that's probably for the best.

Unless the club is sold this summer - which won't happen - he's probably burned all bridges with the Lewises and his attitude has been questionable for a long, long time. Regardless of whether he's right or wrong, whether he's a liability on the pitch or not, you can't afford to have a player with such an unprofessional attitude. Either you turn a blind eye on his antics and it sets a very poor example for the rest of the squad, or you fine/suspend him and you have an unhappy player in your team.

Let's squeeze as much as we can from his transfer, wish him luck wherever he goes and forget about him. Very good player, but for me, it's clear that his heart hasn't been in it this season.

Me neither. I assume that he’s not part of RDZ’s plans for next year as a captain and is likely going to be sold, so the club didn’t want him around the dressing room for the last two games. Madders looks like the anointed captain in all but name, from the fuss that was made about having him on the bench for his talismanic powers.

Absolutely disgusted if this is true. Also going on the assumption that Romero has driven this and not RDZ has told him to fudge off.

Imagine a captain like Steven Gerrard, Keane, Terry or even Kane not going into the dressing room before the most important game in our recent history to give a rousing speech.

Again, making assumptions but what a fudging clam. Unforgivable

What if your assumption isn’t correct and actually RDZ wanted and expected him to be here this week, would you still feel the same?

Why does a player being sold in the future mean they don't want him around the dressing room? Especially the captain - The only reason for that would be because he is a bad presence around the other players. I'm not saying that he is, but your rationale/excuse just does not stack up.....

It’s plausible that they want someone else, like Madders, to be the loudest voice in the dressing room, and that they don’t think it’s helpful for Cuti to be doing whatever his thing is, without going as far as calling him a “bad presence”.

Madders is the loudest voice in the dressing room anyway, Romero is not that sort of guy you can see that from all the behind the scenes stuff - He doesn't need to be sent packing away from the rest of the squad because of that at all. There is no positive reason for wanting the captain to be away from the rest of the team, whatever way you want present it. Lets call a spade a spade here....

It's simply because we don't know the whole truth yet.

Did he simply decide to go to Argentina to watch his old team and have a bit of a holiday? If so, very bad look and not acceptable.
Did he go to Argentina for treatment?
Did he go home because a family member is sick?
Is a transfer already in the works?
Did he and the club have a full dialogue and he went with their permission?

There's just potentially so much more to it that we don't know. But the internet is always in outrage mode and this club in particular is always just a few days away from a self-inflicted crisis.

Even if it is the first option and he did just go for a holiday, then I'm still not that bothered. Move him on. The club will still be here. We'll still be here. In the meantime we've got the most important match of our future on the weekend. The last thing we need is this sort of negativity around.

Thanks pal, appreciate the detailed response. All v fair points.

Rarely disagree with you my Aussia pal but it's just got me worried it will impact the environment even though we don't know if it's true. I'm leaning to think it was true as Vickery reported it. However I'm certain he will get given orders to get the eff home.

There's no need for treatment in Argentina, he can get it in England. Even if that was the case he can put it back for a few days until after the game.
If a family member is sick that's fair enough, but don't go to the training ground of your old club and don't go to match when your own team is playing their most critical match in years.

A top club wouldn't allow Cuti to remain as captain after he decided to turn up late to training following the NLD!!

The decline in standards at this club since Kane left has been tragic.

Now we're being silly. How can we have a go at Cuti for being in Argentina when Kane couldn't even get his arse back from Miami for day 1 of pre-season. He extended his own summer, then came back and wasn't exactly a shining beacon under Nuno. He just did what he wanted.

Because most of us had a go at Kane at that time. The lad was a model pro, I love him but he left himself down that summer.

He also didn’t miss a game that has a profound impact on the future of the club.

Bizarre you’re bringing Kane into this.

Nah, it's not, it's pretty much par for the course. Doesn't matter the topic he'll find a way to bring Kane into it and try to lay the boot into him.
