***OMT - TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs. READING - OMT***

I want some goals. And bring back the pee stains.

much prefer this formation than a flat four at the back. some thoughts:
- bale and lennon to keep to their strong sides and help out in defence
- dempsey for siggurdson? dempsey better meeting crosses, siggurdson better coming from deep and long shots.
- sandro to be pure DM so gallas can use his experience in directing the defence
- give Brad another go after his fabulous performance - and send the right message to the team!

Dont mind three at the back. Seemed to work for Wigan at the tail end of last season. Would seem to be working to our personnel strengths. Walker and BAE have been woeful. Ditto Livermore

Play Bale and Lennon wide and slightly deeper as old fashioned wingbacks. Have Sandro (or when fit Parker) to hold. Allow Dembele, Dempsey and Sigg to get up to support Ade whenever possible.

One of our main weaknesses (both this season and last) was getting enough players in the box. Three at the back may help solve this problem.

Time to shake things up a bit. The previous incarnations have shown they are NOT capbable of 3 points.
Ergo:

Big Bad Brad

Naughton
Dawson
Caulker
GB Bale

(Not Andy)Townsend
Stella Dembele
Samba Sandro
Siggaurdson

Dempo
African Ade

That right there is a 2-0 win.
Except you just know Liverbore will start along with the creaking Galllarse and we'll LOSE on SUPER SUNDAY.
The Nation will love it.

The 3 at the back idea is not a bad shout tbh. It won't happen of course but it's this sort of creative formation that did wonders for Wigan last season and could work wonders should AVB implement it (which he won't):

------------------------------------------Friedel-----------------------------------------

--------------------Dawson-----------Vertonghen----------Gallas/Caulker-----------

----Walker------------------------------------------------------------------------Bale-

-----------------------------------------Sandro-----------------------------------------

--------------------------------Dembele------------Sigurddson-----------------------

-------------------------------------------Dempsey------------------------------------

------------------------------------------Adebayor--------------------------------------

Gallas is captain - doubt he'd get dropped, and I really don't think he's as bad as has been made out....

An OMT that doesn't make me want to scratch my own eyes out. That's a new feeling this season. Good luck Glen, we're all counting on you.

----------------Lloris-----------------

Walker-----Gallas-----Verts-------Benny

----------Sandro------Dembele----------

---------------Sigurdsson---------------

Lennon-------------------------------Bale

----------------Ade----------------------

Dempsey to come on on the hour, for Sig or Lennon.

2-1 Reading.

Difficult to predict a line up this early, have to wait and see whether someone pick up injury at international duty.
Want to see both Dembele and Adebayor from start though, Lloris and Dempsey probably on the bench without much training with the team.

Walker or Naughton?
Gallas or Dawson / Caulker?
Bale or Townsend ? lol - he's been brick poor so far this season though

-------------------LLoris

Walker-------Dawson--------Verts-----BAE

-------------Dembele-------Sandro

Lennon-----------Dempsey------------Bale

----------------------Ade

Thats teh team (except Parker in for Sandro if fit)

Ive only seen the WBA in full so far, but the first thing I noticed was that in attack we effectively went 343

......Gallas.........Sandro........Vertonghen

Walker..........VDV.......Livermore.......Ekotto

......Lennon.........Defoe..........Bale

And for an hour it was very effective, sub Adebayor for Defoe and Dembele for Livermore and it would begin to look VERY exciting IMO.

Obviously in defensive lines it became 451 pretty quickly, but the split CBs and Sandro enabled the transition to be reasonably smooth.

I thought, over all, that during that hour our movement and shape was VERY positive in either phase of play.

I also think, with the acquisitions we have made it should work a lot better than it did against WBA

It worked for Wigan, but more by luck than judgement IMHO - they were suicidal at the back

Mancini has the players to dominate games from front to back.

He also has an abundance of midfielders and forwards, so kind of makes sense to use as many as possible.

Aside from the fact City are a team opponents will naturally sit off of, making it more viable to start with.

With AVB having played a back 4 just about always in his (admittedly short) managerial career and his tutor Mourinho also just about always playing a back 4 in his managerial career and our players not yet used to AVB's style of play I don't see any way we would all of a sudden change to a back 3/5. Even more so when we only have 4 senior centre backs with Kaboul reportedly out for a long time and out of those 4 Gallas is quite injury prone.

But Nayim, in the post immediatelyh above this one - you yourself suggested 3-4-3 worked well for the first hour against West Brom.

Thats how I would like to play from the start at Reading and get more players in the box to score more goals!!

There is a difference between lining up 343 (541 in defence!) and switching to it when you have the initative.

I quite like the shape we had against WBA, best of both IMO.

And dmac provided a good screen grab of us in action against Norwich

4 players in the box, Walker carrying it forward - Sigurdsson in space (the obvious pass, not made on this occasion) and (I think) Vertonghen coming up from the left channel. Seems to me the options to get plenty of bodies forward are there with the 433/451 we have been playing...
