Guglielmo Vicario

It was a great strike, it just doesn't suit your agenda. Was Donnarumma weak for both our goals?
For me it's more that the goal and the save are examples of his strengths and weaknesses. He's a fantastic close range reaction stopper, one of the best in the business. His performance with middle and long distance shots is not so good because he seems to misjudge his positioning and thus makes the save more difficult than it might have been.

Unfairly slagged of by some of our fans IMO but sadly it happens to most keepers when they make mistakes . They all do i even saw the best ever for our club Jennings recieve it on occasion.

Every single time he takes a kick I say "10 yards further up ffs". He cannot kick to save his life. Can't kick, can't catch, can't command the area....but great shot stopper.
I must admit I never really understand this as praise for a goalkeeper. Isn’t that the basic requirement? I do get that some keepers will be more naturally reactive than others but if that’s all you’ve got, it’s not really high praise imo.

It used to be, it's a rarity now.

Raya gets a lot of praise generally, but look at Muani's goal yesterday, it went straight through him. Two decades ago, every keeper in the PL, saves that shot, every time.

Indeed, I'm sure that fans of every team see their keeper make some fantastic saves. I don't think Vic is an outlier here at all. His shot stopping ability (which I'd say is somewhere between average and good at PL level) doesn't get anywhere close to making up for his considerable weaknesses, weaknesses that he hasn't addressed at all since arriving at Spurs.

Raya is better than Vic by a country mile. He does absolutely everything better than Vicario does. It is a shame that the hierarchy at Spurs considered £30m too expensive for a proven, PL goalkeeper a few years ago. The fact that we'll end up spending far more than that to (possibly) find a keeper good enough makes it laughable.

How can someone who’s played for Italian national team be this atrocious at kicking a football!

At least our dear transfer committee made up for that error by subsequently paying top dollar for Brentford's Mbuemo and Damsgaard eh 💸

I’m not so concerned with him kicking it out of play, we’re not directly hurt from that.

Bigger issue is how poor he is with shots from distance and it’s because of his footwork. Iwobi’s goal is a perfect example.

He dives with both feet on the ground from a static position. You get very little launch that way. He has a good view of the shot, a couple of quick steps his right would give him momentum and a better launch for an easy save.

I’m surprised there’s been no improvement in this area, it’s why he’s often beaten from distance so easily. This doesn’t take away from his short distance saves, which is fantastic

His positioning in general looked poor for that second goal. He seemed to be covering too much of his near post.
