Igor the Interim

Yea I mean I wanted Alonso as well, but being realistic there was like a 1% chance of that.

The season is pretty much a write off at this stage we just needed someone to get us through to summer and stay in this league, then go again with a new manager.
I am not sure I understand the logic that Alonso was not gettable. he worked wonders at Leverkusen and has been sacked from Madrid. he is going to nee to prove himself again. But I agree unless the owners start to play decent wages why would he come.

I think Managers like Alonso on the elite side need and want a clear run up to the job, coming in part way through the season when we are in a serious relegation battle isn't that platform IMO. It was always going to be a temp job

Let's hope he's as much a genius as Mel Brooks

Erm, yes they were. He was always in the same conversation as Iraola etc.
The outcome has been poor, but the appointment wasn't. It should have worked.
Erm…. I guess you were one of the very few people who wanted him then? I most certainly wasn’t and didn’t see any clamoring, he was one name amongst a few other uninsperational ones. Of course I gave him a chance once he was here but he was well down my list.

Probably a question for another thread, but why on earth would you think it “should have worked”?

He’ll have the pick of jobs outside of Barca and Real (particularly Liverpool), he can wait for the right one. Why would he take us over now?

I dont get this appointment at all. I will sit back and hope for the best. Another waste of a season.

We will if we are lucky barely scrape not getting relegated. Got nowhere in both cup competitions. And next season we will have no europe for a bloated squad. We jump from one kind of manager to another.

This appointment is what is is. Uninspiring.
This appointment I actually get tbh, needed someone with experience of relegation battles without a transfer window who has been actively coaching. Realistically that means for prem there is only Dyche and he came available I expect later in our process. Outside of the prem Tudor probably has the best track record of this at multiple clubs, so it depended on how much weight was given to prem experience.

«His mandate is straightforward – bring organisation, intensity and competitive edge to the squad at a decisive stage of the campaign.»

So now we know what the board thought Frank lacked.

I have no idea about Tudor. I think a majority of us would complain regardless of who we got in. «Klopp?! Nah, fudge off, coached Liverpool!» - «Nagelsmann?! fudging hell, been coaching a national side for ages!» - «Alonso?! Spanish clam, knows fudge all about fighting relegation!» - poisoned chalice, this job.

People make irrational partisan choices and then won't divert off them, everyone else is rubbish ra ra ra

I think its time for people to round up and back whoever it is and get strapped in for the battle

Frank shouldn't have worked, he is a pragmatic manager despite a few insisting otherwise. And pragmatic doesnt work at this club, can be debated all day long whether that's right or not but they just don't work here and what happened was exactly as predicted....

if pragmatism doesn't work, nothing will

Ange was the opposite and that worked out just the same.
