It's the same failures whether in a back 4 or back 3. Running out like a headless chicken leaving big gaps behind him and it happens too often. That's not playing as a unit.

It's clear he decides to try to win/rescue the game all by himself at certain points.

Up to the manager (especially with 3 CBs on pitch) to coach the team to cover for that, also up to the manager to call him out if he is actually going rogue.

Amazing, every time the entire team looks dysfunctional, lack of organization, lack of covering the basics, its every player, every top international turns to brick (I keep referring to United, funny how every brick player in the last 2 years left them and was amazing elsewhere in worse teams), yet none of that is the manager

And I return to the issue with management of not letting that happen, of putting in place rules and structures (or commanding the respect) for him to curb himself.
I love the fact he is playing as a CF sometimes and scoring goals, but to your point, he is a defender primarily.
I wonder if there is a respect issue there?
FWIW I love Romero and agree that he goes off piste defensively sometimes.
I do think the formation switch has to be accounted for today.

Id play him in front of the 2 cbs. A dm if you like. Him and VDV are our only means of goals it seems. Something has to chabge. Definately need a striker that gets into the goalscoring positions too.
 
Played to the point where he's cramping up. Played RCB in a two, LCB in a three, CCB in a three. Never stops changing ahead of him and around him. Keeps scoring now too, keeps giving his all.

Best player we have. Would be great if we had someone even better than him, but his position is literally the last priority in the squad for me.

Two managers now whose had Danso and/or Dragusin available at different times. They keep playing Romero. I guess they're just not seeing it with Romero or are too afraid to do drop him if it's really the case that Danso or Dragusin are better?
 
The narrative on here is that Romero lost concentration, the ball went under his foot for a throw, and Burnley scored from it.

I just watched the whole passage of play back on SpursPlay, and there is a LOT more that happened.

Ironically the Spurs commentator says "Spurs are well on top here" because we were really dominating.
The Burnley keeper whacked it upfield, we dealt with it fine and passed it back to Vic.
As usual Vic could have played a simple pass to Romero immediately, but he hesitates, looks upfield, considers his options, then fires it 10% too hard and 10% too inaccurate at Romero.
It wasn't awful (for Vic) but it is those fine margins, the 2 second hesitation, the marginally wrong pass, and also of course Romero should EASILY have controlled it.

There is a throw in but the idiot TV director decides to focus on Walker's gormless face and Vic wrestling with someone and back to Walker, so we don't really see why this happens, but Porro comes all the way across from right back area to left back area. That is very strange and makes no sense to me. We leave the right back area to be covered by Solanke Gallagher Danso and Spence... strange right?

Then we clear that throw and it is recycled and they play the ball to the same area, VdV tackles Walker and it is another throw.
That throw goes backwards, then comes out to Walker again who pings in a perfect cross.
During this whole time Porro is playing left back, seems quite odd to me, and planned, as there was time to revert back?

Anyway, the back post is still Solanke Gallagher Spence Danso marking 4 opponents. Danso goes with a runner, the other sort of mark 2 players but basically they just watch Tuanzebe run in and smash it home. Very poor from them.
 
For Burnley's 2nd goal you guys are spot on, Romero goes out for a tackle but is miles away from it, he then walks back towards our goal as he knows we are wide open with just Danso and VdV against 57 Burnley forwards.
VdV is twisted like a pretzel, then it is Danso vs 56 Burnley forwards and they score.


For Romero's goal, on 89 minutes Odobert does great, pings it across to Xavi who controls, feints, and smashes it off the bar.
40 seconds later Tel does great, pings it out to Odobert who does great, pings it across to Romero who bullets his header in.
I noticed Scarlett is right behind Romero, he is swinging his foot to volley it in but of course it never gets to him.
 
I look fwd to watching Cuti channeling his hatred of Brazil and roughing up Gabriel like this when the Goons visit WHL…
