Transfer thread

Bang on. None of this squad would dislodge any of that 16/17 team.
Only maybe 3 of the current squad would get near any top 6 squads at the moment.
Its an average squad with everyone available. At the moment we are dogpoo.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Emirates Marketing Project I would agree. But not the rest.

Swap out a bunch of these players and put them into a functioning Villa side or an over performing mid table team and we would rate them high. Take some of their players and put them into the current Spurs squad and they would struggle.

And we saw that with the 16/17 team as well. Lloris, Walker, Rose, Vertonghen, Demebele, Eriksen, Lamela and a young Kane were all part of the team under AVB & Sherwood. Some of them were seen as useless as well.

It's hard to explain. Easiest to relate it to a striker that never gets crosses so stops getting into the box. I think you stick a midfielder in there whose first instinct is to play neat, crisp forward passes then you'll see a reaction from the guys ahead. Kudus, Kulu, Xavi etc are made for that style of play. Then stick Solanke in the team who can actually receive the ball and hold it up, then I think we would all be seeing the world differently. Bents and Pal are not the answer as the double pivot.

Also look at how and when the Brentford full-backs made their runs into the opposition half. It was all in synch with the midfield interactions.
I think if we'd had Solanke playing instead of Richarlison this season, we'd have seen significantly different patterns to games and many more little wins within them. That one simple change is (I believe) a crucial part of why we are seeing what we have done and why there should be no question of binning Frank off.

Option to buy for Takai. Twitter is on meltdown. He hasn't featured once, so as long as we make a profit, who cares. If we do sell him with a loss, then our entire recruitment team should consider different careers.

I went to see Bromley once! Ace stadium, one of the oldest, I believe.

Bromley currently top of League 2 despite this being only their 2nd season after promotion from non-league. A good place to move to currently I'd say as they're obviously doing a lot right atm

That option to buy can’t be true can it? Unless it’s some sort of ridiculous, never going to happen terms?

Or they have seen him up close in training and just think he is years away from being at that level. In which case you make a profit now and insert a buy back clause/sell on percentage down the road.

Solanke or Savinho
Kulusevski or Maddison

Add in either of those options to this team and you can conservatively turn 2 draws into wins and 2 losses into draws which would put us 5th.

Does that mean I am pro Frank and would be upset if he was sacked tonight? No

But I think anything would be struggling to get a tune out of this team from an attacking perspective right now.

We are moving quickly clearing the decks - Johnson, Solomon and Takai all gone. Donley and Ajayi rescued and soon hopefully re-homed. Not bad for the first 36 hours of the window.

That leaves just Bissouma and Scarlett probably left to deal with. Maybe we also give Davies 6 months world cup sharpening at Swansea, if we get a LB in too.

I like it but we are dangerously thin now.

1. Vicario
2. Kinsky
3. Porro
4. Spence
5. Davies
6. Romero
7. Van de Ven
8. Danso
9. Dragusin
10. Palhinha
11. Gray
12. Bentancur
13. Bergvall
14. Xavi
15. Kudus
16. Odobert
17. Tel
18. Richarlison
19. Kolo Muani

Thats our 1st team squad right now with Udogie, Kulusevski, Solanke not due to return anytime soon. Sarr still at AFCON for a bit. Keep in mind Van de Ven is suspended for Dortmund and Dragusin is not registered as well. So that’s a 15 outfield players to pick from for that the Dortmund game.

Ruben Neves is available. Would be a great addition as a deep playmaker. Thought he was older, but apparently only 28. Premier league proven too.

There are a lot of decent players likely available, Neves, Gomes, Vlahovic, Savinho, etc.

Seems we are busy selling, not seeing the buying yet

Why? (serious question), you have had half a season that not only hasn't been good enough, the performances are brick, there is no indicators of us getting better, outside of "need more time" or "who would we replace him with" what is a reasonable take that says we are going to be 50% better moving forward?
Well isn't the point that if finishing higher than 12th represents an acceptable improvement in gaining what the squad should achieve that we are currently 12th and only 1 point off 9th, 3 points off 7th, 4 points off 5th and 7th points off 4th. So your "acceptable season with this squad" criteria is well within target sights.

But it isn't, because the data actually suggests that we are overperforming just to be in 12th, and the eye test backs that up, we could have played another 90 mins against Brentford and not won, these aren't unlucky results.

We might get better with no real line of sight to how that would happen is exactly the problem with Frank

Because the league isn't finished yet and as such our league position is not final - a win on Sunday (yeah right) could have us 4 or 5 points off of the CL spots (it already is actually if you factor in 5th getting you entry) does that mean all of a sudden we're doing much better?
I'm not so fussed about league position for Franks first season provided we aren't threatening relegation. Obviously for optics it's better the higher we finish, but just for the spirit of longevity of the manager I think the general footballing approach and style is more important for season one.

Needless to say that side of things isn't going great, but as we are middling and within touch of European football results wise there is no real reason to rush into anything right now. If things don't change style wise then I fear for his future beyond this season but I don't see why he shouldn't be given the opportunity to take performances up a notch or two at this stage.....

So you want to sack a manager who took over a team that finished 17th and broke a record for losing the most games without getting relegated, because he's 12th at the midpoint, 4 points off 5th, having been without his firat choice striker and two most creative AMs for the entire season because...."the eye test" .......as i've said on here before the "line of sight" to how things get better is that Solanke, Kulu, Udogie and Maddison return and the football improves almost by default. Additionally our home form only needs to improve to just reasonable mean levels to start putting more points per game on the board in the 2nd half of the season.

I have reservations about frank being the answer but getting rid at this stage in the circs would be ridiculous.
