***Official Match Thread Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool Sat. 20th Dec. 5:30pm***

Personally, I thought he was a disgrace for two incidents. First half, Spence created some space and sprints towards their area (think it was when Bradley fell over). He has no one within 10 yards to help him. Muani is jogging up behind him. Unforgivable.

Second half we launched a long one and are desperate for a ball to stick. He didn’t even jump for it.

He can fudge off for all I care and I do think he’s a boy with talent. If you aren’t good enough, fair enough. If you can’t be bothered, that’s a million times worse.

I noticed the ‘jump’ at the time too - woeful.

But then he nearly scored with a delightful chip that hit the post. Agree completely about him not giving Spence at option though.

It was a deflected cross wasn’t it?

I rarely ever go in on players for lack of effort because I honestly believe 99% of players give their all in games. Muani didn’t today and that’s unforgivable for a professional especially given the circumstances.

The trouble is we can't blame the refs, however bad the decisions against us are. The fact is Xavis red was nailed on, he was nowhere near getting the ball, just a frustrated brainless lunge after his usual losing the ball easily. What can I say about Romero already on a booking then lashes out after being fouled. Brainless from our club captain. If we sell him he will probably look like the top defender we know he can be. Until we splash big money and wages on top players it will be the same thing season after season. I know its not easy to tempt top players when there is so much competition from clubs home and abroad, but does anyone seriously think PSG would have let Muani join us on loan if he had any chance of making the starting line up for them. Our squad is just a mid table squad at best. We supporters just need to deal with it.

Is that Muani you’re talking about? (sorry haven’t read all the previous posts).
For me it was the (soft) penalty shout on Spence near the start of the second half when Spence had made a long run forward and needed someone to pass to and Muani was closest but far, far from busting the gut that was necessary to give Spence an option. I am in the Paxton so could see it unfolding in front of me. Spence was left with nowhere to go/pass and it was easy for him to be closed down (maybe fouled, possibly not, need to watch it again) but Muani could have got closer with just a tad more effort but he was ambling along.
Still like him as a player but that has raised question marks.

Yes it’s Muani. Didn’t notice the one in the second half but there was definitely one in the first half. Couldn’t believe what I was watching.

We were a last option for him I imagine, that's why it happened so late in the window.

He rejected us in Jan, doesn't really want to be here now.

We badly need Dom Solanke back imho. His pressing from the front is miles better than Muani and the ball sticks with him more than Richy when played up field. I am also sure he would have been looking for a pass from Spence when he made that run. I think people underestimate how important he is and we don’t have like for like cover for that position.

I think today showed why Muani is on the left with Richy is the middle. The former’s press is almost non existent.

He’s not suited to this league. Sell him to Atlético and he’ll be the best defender in the league for them, another Diego Godín. But he’s not going to do it here. And making him captain? … another poor decision in a long list made by this club in the past few years.
I would sell him for 60 to 70 mill. Hes great some games, but a liability in just as many. Is good for 2 reds every season.
I d hoped giving him the captaincy would calm him down but hes a reckless as ever. Even games where he doesnt get a red, there are challenges where he was lucky not to be carded.
20 years ago though in that era he would have been amazing.

Well at least Solanke is “progressing foreward”.

I think Dragusin and Danso will be more of a solid pairing at the back if i am honest.

Why do we sign so many players with such weak mentalities? Symons basically threw that game away all by himself. Fails to make a simple pass and an attack breaks down and then in a fit of pique makes a hopeless tackle. Im sick to death of seeing this movie over and over!

Sorry but I thought Romero did way more damage. A stupidly hit pass against a Liverpool players head to set them on the way for the first goal, and then just when it looked like we could get the equaliser, he decides to get himself sent off.

I'm not saying Simons didn't mess up, but Romero is our coming captain and those two mistakes were shocking

Today was a bit of an eye opener into how we want to play. Spence, Kudus, Simons, and Bergvall all had opportunities to play the ball forward, and I thought for professional players they were fairly straightforward passes, but they decided to take extra touches and keep the ball moving.

Are they not meant to take on slightly risky passes? Or is their consequences for not making the passes? After the red card, it seemed like we freed ourselves off instructions and played football.
