What would YOUR priority signing be in the Jan transfer window?

Apologies if already posted, and probably bs, but...

No idea if it's a real link but at least there's speculation that we are trying to address a very obvious fault.

I hate being someone to say "I told you so" but I fudging said a a passing CM was a priority in the summer window thread and so many dismissed that idea. Now look, everyone can bloody finally see it. 🤣

Barrios’ player radar looks rather more Modric than Palhinha which would hopefully lead to a less turgid midfield… if he can adapt to PL as well as Luka did…

Don't get your hopes up - this is just the beginning of thousands of nonsense links that are fast approaching :)

A passing midfielder with this sort of profile is exactly what we require, I doubt it will be him but if it ends up being of this ilk then great....

Twitter is saying Lange is interested in de Cat
Whilst this would be a good surname for jokes and headlines, he is only 17 and has made 18 appearances in the Jupiler league

He will probably become a really good player in the next few years and might even be good enough for a top PL side in 5 years' time, but he is nowhere near good enough for right now.

Think back to the last game, Forest's Sangare and Anderson (and MGW) would snap him in half and eat him for breakfast.

Jesus, are we making up names for people now?

I just want us to sign someone for DE LEFT WING

Bergvall can do that really well if he is played with the right DCM, but he needs more than one or two games to prove it and fleeting appearances off the bench.
He isn't a top class passer, his strength is running with the ball and driving forward that way. He's not going to pick out line breaking passes regularly. Gray is more of a passer than Bergvall. The only players that we have that really have that ability are Madders and to an extent Kulu.

This is how I feel about Bergvall. I've yet to see anything that suggests he's got the passing range and vision. He does have really top class potential but it's in ball carrying, line breaking and I expect as he matures 2nd man runs Into the box. But tempo setting passer? I don't see it.

We don't need a "quarter back" in the CM though, you need someone that can join attack and defence with quality and also presence. He also has alot of quality on the ball, the sample size with him at Spurs is small but he clearly has been bought in because of that quality.

The quality to break the play with passing should be IMO the role of the Xavi or Madders who should be joined by a Bergvall with presence and runs off which present space for the passing talent of one of those two players.

We need someone that can quickly get the ball through the lines and into the forwards. Everything is too slow and sideways at the moment. Bergvall running with the ball can't be the only option to link defence with attack. It's too easily countered if there are no other options.
Xavi can't play a deeper role, he is best in a 10 role.

I think people are vastly underrating Bergvalls quality on the ball personally but I don't fancy a back and forth on that all night.

My counter to some of this would be that Bergvall would then need to be moved on because De Cat isn't good enough as a DM so would take his role as the number 2 CM next to a more defensive midfielder.

Thats cool if we are hugely rating this guys ability as a CM prospect over Bergvall, for me its a role where we have players with ability to fill. The DM role is one where we now seem to be low although I still rate Pali if he plays with someone other than Bentancur.

For me the immediate issue is still LW and now LB back up, by far and away

I've wondered whether Alex Scott might be the answer to getting a player who can play the 6 and has significant creative talents besides being resistant to the press and comfortable on the ball under pressure? Perhaps he answers that lingering question of modern day football perhaps not allowing for a specialist (BTW I still think Palhinha is a fine player and does good stuff for us when used properly)...
I said that when he was at Bristol City. Good player. Another young gem is Rubin Colwill at Cardiff City.
