I left when my time was up you sign up for 3, 6, 9,12 or 22 years most of the people i knew left when there time was up you could leave earlier but you had to do a minimum of 3 years then it was a years notice. so yes it's much easier to leave a political party. The point I made was simply that it easier to leave a party if it is 'morally bankrupt' and not so easy to leave active service if you view a war as 'morally bankrupt'. Nothing more. To me there is a line somewhere where you can disagree on a party's political direction and try to change it, as you said, or when you need to leave. I would say that line is a long way back in the mirror for Likud but we might see that differently.
As for the illegal orders, I was referring to Hegseth obviously. This point on the legality of his orders has also been made by US senators like Kelly and others. As I said, I have not served and would have no idea the dynamics at play for following orders that were knowingly illegal versus refusing orders, but I am genuinely interested in this. Would you not face court-martial for both? Would it not be reasonable to assume that someone in the chain of command knows that double-tapping a sinking vessel is an illegal order?
edit: this popped up in my feed just now where Kelly is talking about the illegal orders.

As for Likud if any member committed a crime they should be arrested & charged. Starting with Netanyahu I certainly don't agree with there manifesto but is the manifesto a crime in Australia it would be considered a hate crime UK ?
I don't know how the American air force works. but I guess the pilot would have had orders to search for boat's heading towards the US & what he should do if he comes come across said boat. If it was to contact base for further orders that's what he would do. If the order is to neutralise that boat he would then confirm that order. He would then carry out that order. The pilot would not carry out any attack without authorisation. If he did I would be shocked & in doing so he would open himself up to a court martial Does Hegseth have authority to order such an attack or the 2nd attack I really have no idea but neither would the pilot. As far as I can tell he followed orders. That should cover the pilot Hegseth & the pilots commanding officer might have questions to answer though
As for Kelly he is clearly biased & hates the Trump administration don't we all so I would take what he says with a pinch of salt.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorised an admiral to conduct multiple strikes that killed 11 people on a vessel from Venezuela allegedly carrying illegal narcotics in September.
