The American box office seems to be relying upon Wicked and Avatar to save 2025.

UK cinemas doing okay thankfully though, my local Odeon invariably busy since it had Luxe recliners installed.

I often wonder about how the subscription based services like limitless at odeon affects box office records. If people aren't specifically buying a ticket for a new release but see it as part of their membership, does it count for the figures?

The whole thing is designed to push you to signing up, it's 15 quid a ticket or 17/18 a month to see as many as you want...The missus and I cancelled it but it's probably worth it, especially for the rereleases.

Saw Frankenstein at lovely independent cinema in Ilkley, and it was class, wouldn't be the same on Netflix.

They do count towards box office, as you still have to book a seat for a screening. I'm not sure whether a notional or proportional percentage of your £15 is allocated, or how it works. But its been discussed on the Kermode programme before.

Wife was watching some trashy The Beast in Me with Claire Daines (maaaaassssssively overacting) on Netflix last night, and a character is called Terry Fenwick, which caught my ear.
(Later I realised it was Teddy Fenig, which is just Sensible Soccer levels of silly)

There is a early episode of The Bill where there are characters called Bobby Smith, John White and 2 others Jones and Brown. The surnames where common but it seemed a bit of a coincidence.

Running Man : ok, nothing special 6/10

The Long Walk : pretty good - was invested in the characters pretty early on 7/10

One Battle After Another : excellent, loved it - great performances all round and flew by despite the long run time 9/10

Tron Ares : thought this was ok and better than the reception it has received suggests 6/10

THis is the worst year for box office in almost 3 decades. People haven't got money so will wait 3 months to see it streaming.

Hollywood needs to make better movies. They could and should make more movies like Top Gun Maverick. It did something that a lot of movies don’t do these days, it appealed to a wide audience and it didn’t try to alienate anyone. They purposefully didn’t say which nation the villain was even if it was pretty easy to guess. Yeah it leaned heavily on nostalgia but it was just easy to follow and really entertaining.

Give me a film like that over some pretentious nonsense from Yorgos Lanthimos any day of the week.

It also respected the hero from the first film. Without trying to make them look bad in order to make their new and improved hero look good.
But it was tom cruise, the biggest movie star in cinema history (if you disagree look at his paychecks compared to any other actor).

Yes it didn’t throw the characters from the original under the bus to make way for the new characters.

I’m baffled as to why the Mission Impossible films don’t do better at the box office. They do ok but films like the fast and the furious make a billion dollars in its sleep and they’re not a patch on the MI films. The stunts are incredible and you know Tom Cruise is doing them for real which makes it even more insane.

Seems that Wicked: For Good is proving to be the biggest movie phenomenon since Barbenheimer 💰

I watched Nuremberg up local Odeon this week which I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for an epic historical drama.

Lots of great performances from an ensemble cast and right up there with Zone Of Interest and One Life imho.

Same as transformer films. Guessing parents take their kids to them.

It's a massive shame though as it means a lot of potentially good movies don't get made. As the big box offices are for dumbed down crap.

Really hoping 28 years later the bone temple does well or the final part won't be made. Thankfully dune is getting it's 3rd part. The director doesn't give me much hope though. If danny didn't want to do it get alex to. He did amazing with dredd and nobody would get the story better than the writer.

Have to say 28 years later was gash. Felt like it wasn’t needed ti be made and looked like it was filmed on a phone
Do hope the next one plays out the Jimmy Saville theme

We went to see Maverick done with an Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall last year
Was immense and to top if off Tom Cruise was there to introduce it and sat just above us
He got a standing ovation just for waling on stage
And of course Harold Faltermeyer , Jerry Bruckheimer and a few others behind it were there too
Was an unreal experience

I enjoyed it. Anyway looks like they will although the jimmy stuff might be a misdirect as jim (cillian murphy) from 28 days later will be in it.
