The Cricket Thread

Just saw Andy Zaltzman running through the incredible stats for a 1st day of an Ashes test and he made a comment that Ben Stokes could never imagine when he won the toss and chose to bat that he would end the day with a fifer.

it was a gonads set of stats though. “the third worst and also equal best first innings opening day first innings fifth wicket stand between the fifteenth and seventeenth overs in the new Stadium at Perth in the 21st century, in the ashes, on a Friday, batting first after winning the toss, all before lunch”.

England had the opportunity to grab this game by the scruff of neck this afternoon. Instead they played brainless, high risk and low percentage shots. what were they thinking. Would love to know what they were told at lunch because whatever it was it failed miserably

now watch them go on & get 250 just to prove me wrong

That is a shocking DRS decision
Really not good, 3rd umpire did everything he could to make that a wicket

The Aussies have bowled well bur as expected a rash of awful shots from top class players

I said a few days back if England are disciplined they will go well
They have with the way they bowled

Its a lomg way from over though this test

Classic drop in pitch, lively as he'll for a while then dead as disco. They have just played it better.....mix of non sensical batting and them being better

No different to the murmur v Labuschagne yesterday given not out.

Also the split screen when you saw the ball a couple of feet past the bat when the murmur happened. How can you (3rd umpire) ignore that one? Absolute shocker
Whilst I enjoy watching/listening to cricket, my depth of knowledge of the game is greatly lacking. But on the radio this morning they said that the sound waves are 2 frames behind the still we see on the screen. Not sure how that works (but I am probably misunderstanding something).

It's just same old England, same as Spurs away to the Goons - almost always end up bending over for them.

Losing the first test away in Australia always makes it unlikely of an Ashes victory. The fact they still have their best two bowlers to come back with our shambles of a batting lineup just reinforces how unlikely it is we win the series....

Yea Finn was trying to explain that at Tea, the Aussies use a different system to us where the frames don’t match up! So the Aussie snickometer is basically not fit for purpose. 😂

sounds like a complete farce to me. Why even show the 3rd umpire frames like below if they know they’re not accurate?IMG_8836.jpeg
