Xavi Simons

It's not rocket science what is going on with the kid (imo) - he was a bit shocked by the pace and physicality of the league, and the fact he has less time on the ball than in the Bundesliga. When combined with the fact that the majority of games so far have not been situations he thrives in (i.e, they have been gritty, physical affairs), he's lost a bit of confidence and now either struggles to make a decision or rushes it and makes the wrong one.

It's natural - lots of players start out like this. Wirtz is doing the exact same thing at Pool, and cost like 2.5 times as much. It's a rare player that comes in and bosses it right from the off - even Modric struggled initially and needed a season as a winger off the left, to adjust.

It will concern me if he's still like this come the end of the season. For now, I hope he just takes his time to adjust.
Used to be a given for a new signing that they would have 6 months grace to adjust to the league. Not sure if the 24 hour news coverage and social media has changed that but I’m willing to give him time.

The brief moments he’s shown flashes of quality is enough to convince me there’s a special player there who has abilities no one else in the team does

unfortunate that he was called up because of a sudden concussion injury in the chelsea game, but xavi is so weak and slow it was hard watch and unbelievable to think about the price we paid for him.

it was probably a poor decision made after the mgw debacle and maddison injury, but don't we look at speed and strength stats?

i am sure there is a player in there, but we needed to someone to hit the ground running. However he is way off the team's wavelength and effort level, someone needs to get his head right, pronto, or face abuse from spurs fans.

There is absolutely a player in there. Manager and coach need to find it. That's their job.
How many times do you hear that about players that don't make it in this league. As for the coaches they can only do so much then it's on the player. At the moment he's not doing enough but hopefully given time to adjust & adapt he will be a success. I hope we the fans show patience.

My take on him, is that yes, he has absolutely been surprised by the strength of and pace of the Prem and because of that he has lost confidence.

He’s response to that has been to (rebona’s apart) to be more conservative and ‘keep possession first’ which he is failing miserably at as he loses possession more than Gil did (almost)

So my suggestion if he is to make it, is for him to be massively more quick (of thought) and aggressive, with everything! look for and crucially play the early ball, take on your man quickly and shoot on sight. Expect nothing to be given to you by the refs so try to never let anyone near you, be on the move constantly and when someone does get near you never go down without a fight.

If someone could pass this on to him that would be great thanks ;)

A lot of people saying he needs time.

Hypothetical question. How much game time would he actually get to improve if Madders and Deki were fit?

It may be a question that never needs answering as he’s got lots of time to get it right for now. But if either of those were fit at the moment, he would not be getting hardly any time at all.

He badly needs some good moments. A goal, a crucial assist in a win. Then they should start to snowball if there is a player there,

Worth noting. Our style of play doesn’t suit him at all either.

Time doesn't just mean playing time. He's a 22 year old who's signed on a big transfer, getting used to life in a new country and playing in a team that is really struggling. There is absolutely no way any judgement should be passed on him for a long time yet.

Agree to an extent.

Are we really struggling btw? Up until yesterday we were the joint highest scorers in the league and even after a loss we now average 1.7pts per game. I’d be pretty happy (and surprised) if we keep that average by season end.

Results have been ok overall, though we're at 3 wins (Everton, Leeds, Doncaster) in our last 10 games.

More than anything, I think we're struggling for an identity and what we want to be. But that's a forever problem, nothing new. But for a young player joining at the end of August, to expect much more by November is unrealistic I think.

But he's not what we need now when madders and kulu are out long term.
MGW was the right profile and too bad it didn't happen - Xavi has been a poor signing and is creating more unnecessary pressure for TF.

Eze was the one to get until we ballsed that up. But that's not Xavi's fault.

Up until yesterday we had only played Emirates Marketing Project out of the big six sides and Saudi Sportswashing Machine. By the time we have played all the others then our average will be far from the 1.7 points per game.

Yes we are struggling. We play ugly football, the fact we have scored goals doesn't change that and it's just not sustainable. And neither is the points sustainable, after an initial bounce with a new manager teams know we are reliant on Kudus and set pieces and if you negate that we have zero. And without Vicario the results would be a lot worse, none of it is sustainable.

Frank needs to sort it out and fairly quickly, he's not helping himself at all. The fans won't let him get away with this style, especially at home....

We haven’t played Saudi Sportswashing Machine. And my 1.7 includes the game against Chelsea. It also includes a game against the team who are 2nd with a game in hand….and Emirates Marketing Project.

Like I said. Id be surprised if we maintain it.

Been a bit underwhelming so far. Although he does have beyond crap forwards to work with. Like seriously poor. The worst collection of forwards we’ve had in my lifetime.
It's so true, but we are not even getting to the point of playing football up to the forwards though. We have enough midfielders who can pass a ball, yet it's all sideways, back and hoof it long.

It's no coincidence that the only decent performances we've really had is against an underbaked PSG and Emirates Marketing Project. Two teams who come onto you, therefore allowed us to hit our usual long balls to actually work for our forwards to run into. But most teams unlike when playing Brentford, sit back against us and ask us to play football and break them down. And we literally don't know how to do it....
