Bloody Immigrant paedophiles. Oh….
It is pretty much confined to the levante where he spent much of his time before death. His tomb was supposedly located in a Syrian mosque of Nabi Jurjis and this fact was cited by Isis in its destruction of the mosque along with other mosques in Syria that were shared holy sites of Christians and Muslims. The Islam bit is news to me. For any of the sects.
I've always wanted to know what the culture and heritage actually is. Is it a list of things? I mean I was born here but I'm not aware of the cultural aspects that are not being embraced that should be. And why it's offensive if someone does not. As long as they don't break the law of course.
I thought it was just a schism about about which of Abraham's sons was the eldest. So not even Pat Jennings was better for us levels of beef. But what would shock many perhaps on both sides is just how similar Christianity and Islam are. The biggest difference is whether you believe Jesus was a prophet or the son of GHod. Other significant differences pretty much come down to historical interpretation of the same scriptures.
Let's put it this way, if you were Christian or Jewish and got taken over by Isis you could pay a "tax" to be left alone as they still considered you "children of the book". One thing that isn't talked about is how more violent Muslims, Christians and Jews are towards different versions of their own than they are towards each other. You only have to look at the Catholic vs Protestant and Sunni vs Shia gonads to see that...I thought it was just a schism about about which of Abraham's sons was the eldest. Drove through Kent today, back from a little holiday in France with the family, St George’s crosses on every bridge over the M2, and even weirder, some of them had trump flags next to them.
It’s embarrassing.
There is a weird energy everywhere generally. People seem as polarised, divided, angry, and increasingly unreasonable as ever.
I'd see it as the twin evils of the extreme accumulation of wealth by the super-rich (middle classes being pushed towards minimum wage levels) and the anti-social behaviours constructed into the core of social media. Until they are addressed by a smarter and more socially ambitious government, it's only going to keep getting worse
How about being addressed by a more socially ambitious population?
They don't have the power to overhaul the tax system or regulate big tech.
Naziturtiums.I've got little Union Jack flags in my pots and hanging baskets outside the front and side of my house. We put them up for VE Day and decided to keep them, VJ Day was a week ago.
They'll stay where they are till they start to fade. Perhaps my flowers are a hotbed for Nazis!!![]()
But if you take away from them all their means of potential betterment, then actively drip feed them poison. You have to deal with the causes first - cut off the oxygenbut they do have the power to not be racist scumbags

Then you can win the misinformation war in the cultural space, in the way things like the anti-nazi league and rock against racism did in the 70s

In terms of the asylum seekers. The anger has to be placed with the govt for not finding a fast track method to process these claims. If we managed Covid (arguable I know) then this should be a piece of tinkle. And it's clearly important to people. The people in the hotels didn't pick those hotels. The good people in those hotels who want to work and feel safe didn't ask to be housed with the few scumbags amongst them.
Honestly the whole situation scared me mostly and it also baffles me.
I would guess it means different things to different people, but I would saying being English/British is about politeness, being a nation with liberal values and norms, being a mostly secular nation, a tradition of literary and musical heritage, football/sport.
I think there is anger towards the government for immigration. But also for the asylum seekers themselves. I think most right thinking people just want people who come here to work hard and also to learn and speak the language. It always annoys me when Brits go abroad and make no effort to speak the lingo, just learning the basics like “please” “good afternoon” “thank you” and “can I have the bill please” go a long way with the locals in any country I find. And it’s equally annoying when people come to this country and speak little or poor English.
