Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

You're pretending to know what someone is feeling. I don't even know what my own wife and kids are feeling.
You've opened up about this before mate.

It says so much. The outward focus of the masses, on the masses, is on steroids. The good work that gets you into a better place is an inward focus, on yourself, and the closest around you.

You've identified a lovely starting point in your post.

Absolutely this, family and friends first, best support network anyone can have. If you isolate yourself from that it can be a fairly dark place, I did it for years and as you grow older, IMO, branching back is a massive healer for the soul.

You become alot less angry with the world also in my experience

Wise words in here. Your connections are really what life is all about, not material brick. Everyone comes to this conclusion eventually, sometimes too late but we all get there. Your relationships and the time spent enjoying them are your real wealth.

Just seen the roundabout thing for the first time irl.

And crosses painted onto zebra crossing stripes.

This is absolutely mental, incredibly dangerous, I fear for the UK, on the precipice of fascism.
It's all a bit

I don't mind seeing flags flown, but if you go somewhere like Canada they have massive fudge off ones flying from proper flagpoles on the roofs of businesses, here we get a few A3 sized efforts cable-tied to a dual carriageway footbridge railing. It makes us look rubbish.

Oh they all look completely brick.

If I hadn’t have been driving I’d have taken a photo of the one where England was spelt incorrectly.

Thick as mince the lot of them.

Its quite an old tradition for people to go a bit loopy this time of year. Going back centuries. Its when riots and wars usually happen. When the discipline of work breaks down. It'll all fade away when the harvest needs bringing in (back to school these days)

Summer ‘recreational rioting’ has gone on in Northern Ireland for decades . So strongly held are the political principles behind it that it stops as the rain, cold and darker nights arrive.

Well nothing says you're a patriot quite like tying a cheap polyester st. George's cross made in China to a lamp post

Look. Nobody gives a flying fuk about your patriotism. If you want to celebrate St George do it. If you want to celebrate your Englishness and the only way you know how to do it by painting a flag on a mini roundabout then do it. But most people think you are not sure what the eff you are trying to achieve.

Hanging a flag or "decorating" a public space with them shouldn't be an issue. It's not something I would do, but hey ho.
Why you're doing it should definitely be an issue.

If it's a message for immigrants and that message is, this is our culture and heritage, feel free to join in and help us celebrate it, then cool.

If the message is this our land and you can fudge off, then I'm afraid you're a douchebag.

I've always wanted to know what the culture and heritage actually is. Is it a list of things? I mean I was born here but I'm not aware of the cultural aspects that are not being embraced that should be. And why it's offensive if someone does not. As long as they don't break the law of course.

In terms of the asylum seekers. The anger has to be placed with the govt for not finding a fast track method to process these claims. If we managed Covid (arguable I know) then this should be a piece of tinkle. And it's clearly important to people. The people in the hotels didn't pick those hotels. The good people in those hotels who want to work and feel safe didn't ask to be housed with the few scumbags amongst them.

Honestly the whole situation scared me mostly and it also baffles me.

The flag of St George of Palestine-Syria
He was of Greek origin. He was a soldier of the Roman Empire and a member of the elite Praetorian Guard. He was sentenced to death for refusing to denounce his Christian faith and was executed in Syria. He is venerated as a saint by not only Christians but the Druze and some Muslim sects who know him as Al-Khadr. He is considered a prophet in Islam as he was martyred by pagans for his belief in Allah (GHod). As well as being the patron saint of England he is also the patron saint of Portugal. Who happen to be England's oldest allies.

The Islam bit is news to me. For any of the sects.

I'm Scottish so don't ask me.

But in all seriousness, I don't really know because I don't particularly identify with any particular culture or nationality or whatever.
Not saying that to be "special" or weird, I just struggle to understand bonds that made by something I have no control over, choice in or was forced upon me.

And yes the anger should be towards the governments.
My big anger is that they continue to say it needs fixed but appear to have no actual clue of how to.
