Me too. like-for-like, Dembele is more of a Modric replacement though for me. Just AVB has seemed keen on Moutinho for the past year now including his Chelsea days (although if he wanted him, he'd surely of got him?).

My point is that Demebele would not have signed as back up, yet is best utilised there - and that we wouldnt spend £40m on two players for one position.

We have at this point midfield options - what we dont have is winger/striker/forward options

This is the one factor about all this that is baffling me. Moutinho would be a cracking signing, just can't worth it all out yet though.

ah ok

perhaps CM is our new RB and we are collecting them for fun.

or perhaps we're going all out for domestic and European cup competitions and we want a squad capable of going hard in all 3 + the league

He's not on that much, although I guess that's how much he wants. Ok, scrap Nani then, but we need someone like that far more than we need Moutinho now(as good as he is).

I don't see any reason why Dembele and Moutinho can't work along with Sandro/Livermore in the same midfield, it's not like they are identical players. Lets not forget just how talented these two are either, you can't turn your nose up at either of them if we had a chance of signing either - this would be beyond our expectations of replacing Modric with these two. Yes we have other areas that needs addressing, but its pretty clear there will be more incomings....
