I agree that we don’t know all of the finer details and probably never will, and tbf I did highlight that in a previous post. We can only judge on the actual outcomes, football is a results business. And the end result is we failed to land another big target just weeks after missing out on MGW. I think someone highlighted that Saudi Sportswashing Machine managed to get a deal done with Forest’s fat, obnoxious owner for Elanga even though he seems like a difficult character in general.

You say we don't know the finer details but then go on with more filling in of the blanks to satisfy a need to point a finger of blame . Saudi Sportswashing Machine bought Elanga from Forest so obviously that means the only reason we haven't been able to buy MGW from them is some wrong doing on our part.

I like the word "outcome". If the outcome was to build a sustainable, high revenue club that feeds all the profit back into the football operation then that is a massive tick in the box. If the outcome is to build a very consistent and high performing squad with a long term manager in place then I think we know the answer there. If the outcome is trophies, well we have won one recently but there is nothing yet to shout about.

What we're all mostly talking about in this last week is the outcome of a transfer window. If I roll back to May, what may we have called as the outcome? We know we needed to convert Danso and we had to make a decision on Tel. We know we needed to shift some peripheral first team players and we had to address the Bents/Biss contract situation. We would have known Sonny's disposition heading into the summer and had that to deal with if it wasn't done already. We also needed to pick the bones out of sizeable number of U21s and make the right career choices for them. Most of all though, we needed 2 or 3 elite signings to move us to the next level. 34 days into the transfer window we delivered one of those in Kudus.

I guess we find out in 9 days time whether that outcome is achieved. With 9 days to go, it certainly feels like there is a load of work to get through to achieve that outcome.

This summer, the biggest outcome by a long way was the manager switch.

It's a seperate deal that has no baring - to use it the way you are is quite clearly requiring the filling in of blanks as to why their deal went through where ours didn't. If you can't see that then idk what to say

We've signed a lot of players in recent years. Imo quite a few rather good players too.

Had a club with significantly more resources and/or higher current profile come in for those probably we would failed to materialise most of those signings too. That's kinda just what happens. Just like Brentford reportedly wanted Gray and Johnson, but we signed them instead because we could because we have more money and a bigger profile.

Saudi Sportswashing Machine did sign Elanga. And how many targets have failed to materialise for them this summer? They've been linked to wanting Sesko, Ekitike, Joao Pedro, Mbeumo. And Isak is trying to force a move away....

What you talk about is unwritten code that exists between clubs. Why would they talk about their opinions on someone they may have to deal with in the future? Doesn't mean they like dealing with the person or company. They are outcome driven and put all the other stuff to one side to focus on their goals. I think Aulas only spoke up in the first place because Levy was breaking other codes of doing business to be fair. That was endorsed fully by Lloris's book many years later. With the Modric one, wasn't it just through his book that we found out about Levy reneging on commitments made around the negotiation table? I don't recall RM speaking out but could be wrong.

Any way I look at this, I still believe that I support a club that others don't want to deal with. The smoke is around our club, not theirs.

Yes, it happens. A club may be seen as more attractive for many reasons.

"More attractive option for the player" would perhaps be a better way to include those many other factors? But money and profile/recent success are massively factors.

If a club comes in that is a more attractive option for the player we will mostly lose out on a deal. And that will just be a thing that happens. Just like it's happened for Saudi Sportswashing Machine repeatedly this summer it seems.

Which is why I advocate for evaluating a window after it closes (and then again a while after that).

Then we'll actually know the outcome of this window.

Palhinha isn't elite? Not having a go, just curious. Not sure I would say elite either, but defensively my expectations are up there for him.

After this week, will you finally accept the problem is Levy? We are an absolute shambles under him. 10 Days til the window closes.

Some people were like "is Eze the biggest signing since Klinsmann" before we argued over bonus fees and let Arsenal take him. Speaks volumes we have to hark back to 1995, 30 years ago, to find a comparison of a nearly signing.

Also read Frank's interview today. Very clear. The media is still trying to get an handle or is it angle on Spurs' transfers. They have been hit and miss in their predictions of where we go.

On another note I am impressed by Nuno's speech about the owner of Forest. Dude is not hiding anything.

But you will have fans of our club say they would like their chairman in charge because he does things….
The fact they are rumoured to be talking to Ange to take over says a lot to me

Or maybe this summer the problem is that the new Chief Executive feels he has to imitate the Chairman's approach to deals? Maybe we had an inkling that the deal might well not happen but thought "well, it's worth a shot". If there's anything to criticise maybe it is the Club's failure to communicate better?
