Eberechi Eze

I believe this is the sort of place we'll go now...I want to believe we'll also get a Savinho but even I might be wising up. If Garnacho is still around on August 29/30, want to bet we go in for him?

That would be the nail in the coffin of this window.

But, if it were to happen, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

It doesn't even need to be the 22/23 year olds - if we're 'willing' to sign 27 year old Eze then we can presumably go for the more established players on the continent - though maybe with the added risk of adapting to the league the no resale value hits harder there? But still, outside of a few of the elite clubs on the continent you'd have to think a PL club in the CL would turn the heads of plenty of players abroad.

The other thing about late 20s players from abroad is that they will be less malleable. If you assume there will be some adaptation period, getting a 23 year old is often better because you get a bit more time for them to hit their stride.

That said, that was what was so enticing about the MGW and Eze deals. It was so unlike us to go for those proven deals. It's a fair point that Saudi Sportswashing Machine are running into the same issue.

El Khannouss looks and plays a bit like Foden in those clips.
He has the potential to be a top player
But … it’s just that
I’m all for it as we’re trying to grow as a team
But I think the fan base in slot or cases will see it as the cheap deal
Like we hear with Vicario even though IMO we got the better keeper and Brentford didn’t get the fee they wanted from us …
It’s the nature of football and the way everything has to be played out on antisocial media

All I ask is that we now see the equivalent of the Van der Ven over Tapsoba episode for our 10 squad space in the next week or two.
Not too much to ask.

I'm going to wait a day or two before jumping into watching many videos of Nico Paz's games.

It's a complex market for us to be shopping in - we need/are targeting top level PL proven talent in order to improve the team, which is a small pool of players to be shopping in and by their nature these players will likely attract interest from 'better' clubs/teams - i want to stress that this isn't about making excuses but more so assessing the situation - we stole a march/got lucky with Kudus and very nearly with MGW as well but with Eze it went the other way, Saudi Sportswashing Machine are having the same trouble seemingly, bigger clubs/better teams targeting the same players and blocking them off - maybe currently we'd have better luck targeting players of this calibre from abroad and taking the risk on them adapting to the league? It's got to be a wider pool of players to be choosing from - you just need to be on point with the scouting due to the lack of experience on the league.

Was thinking the same thing.

There are only so many PL proven players who'll help us take a step forward who are available. It seems like the value could be in the 30-60m players from Europe. At those prices they are the best up and coming players, and whilst they'll need time to adapt, they are probably better value with cheaper wages, and could become top players in the PL. It seems to me a better model for us now. Kulu for example.

If we follow this approach I think we can compile better quality players for less outlay.

Apparently not well tonight, WALOB

Oliver Glasner has said Eberechi Eze called him this morning to pull out of tonight's Crystal Palace's game.

They play Fredrikstad in the first leg of their Conference League play-off at Selhurst Park tonight.

Speaking to Channel 5, Glasner said: "Honestly, I expected he would start today for us.

"But he called me this morning and said that he doesn't feel well to play in the evening. I have to accept it. Everything else, you have to ask the chairman.

"I have to accept it, if a player tells me he is not ready to play."
To me this indicates quite clearly that he had no intention of signing for us: he happily played in a league game (thus potentially jeopardising a move to THFC) and was happily going to play again in Europe (thus potentially jeopardising a move to THFC). Arsenal come along and he immediately calls his boss to pull out of the squad. All this time it was put down to his professionalism. Turns out it wasn’t….

To be fair, it might be that a fee seems to have actually been agreed this time. Glasner was very ballsy on Eze playing this game, but a fee hadn’t bene agreed.

I think it more puts a mockery on the idea that this game had anything to do with holding up the deal. It was not paying what Palace wanted, earlier. Maybe it would have smoked Arsenal out earlier anyway. Maybe not if Havertz doesn’t get injured. We’ll never know.
