Richarlison

You mean he doesn't put in the effort? I think he does, it's the quality that's lacking.
Not sure about the quality either, when he had a run of games, he scored 9 in 10? Just think its because he's always rusty, always coming back from an injury. When was the last time he had 10 games in a row? Or 5 even?

Do you think he’s the required quality we need as a starter? Or do you mean purely as a backup option?
That depends on how we utilise him. He's not a prolific goalscorer, and in that respect we need someone better, but his work rate is fantastic and he can hold the ball up well. If that's the kind of striker Frank wants, he's a good fit. Which of course means more goals will have to come from elsewhere, but that's another discussion.

That doesn't mean Richarlison can't be improved upon. But in the right system - and while fit - he does a very good job.

He has a real inconsistency about him, his touch, his presence, his hold up and link up play, his finishing and shooting.

How much of that is down to injuries and fitness? I'm guessing a solid chunk of it at least. But if he can't stay fit it in a way doesn't matter.
See I don't think it's to do with injuries, he was the same at Watford and Everton. At those clubs he didn't really have any significant injury issues and his game to game play was just as inconsistent. Him falling over being unable to trap a ball at times is not a new development at Spurs.

Excellent performance last night and also in the Europa Final by Richy , if we got rid of players based on injuries then Anderton and Lamela wouldn't have played many games for us .
We know Richy can score in the PL as he had that purple patch when he scored 9 goals in 8 games in 23/24, now under a new coach and different tactics who knows what he can achieve this season.
Are there any rumours of us looking for another striker , if not looks like he is staying as back up to Dom.
The other reality to consider is we'll only get another striker if we have a buyer for Dom or Richie

The interesting thing about Richi is that he can play with Solanke or instead of Solanke. Whilst we see his lack of availability for match day as a problem over the last 2-3 years, when you look within that he has quite a healthy goal/assist rate.

Quite honestly, if we dipped into the market for another number 9, how many of them would have this versatility?

I'm sure he'll get injured again, but don't think the end of this window is the right time for him to depart. We've just got to hope he can stay fit. I also have a feeling that Frank's regime will be way more focused on individual fitness plans for players. We'll see a much higher level of sophistication in these areas.

He and Kudus done what most of our attackers can’t do and thats putting their bodies on the line and in between the ball and defender. When they both went off we lost that and the hold up play / directness from it.

I think so too. But I think it has been worsened by his injury and fitness issues.

I think we have a fairly similar preference for more technically smooth players. The consistent first touch, the wonderful passes, dribbles and shimmy moves that just look stunning and often can be very effective.

I think his qualities in terms of physicality, intensity, sheer positivity, work rate and movement are real qualities too. He doesn't hide and he's always up for a duel. I think that goes quite some way to make up for his technical shortcomings. It's not my preference in a player, I want all of them to be Modric with the ball striking of Bale. But those other qualities are real and very much useful too. On those other qualities he is consistent, unlike some other players.

Is there perhaps a subtle difference that the our forwards are now narrower. Before, it felt like Richi didn't have the first touch to get the ball under control and it just went straight back to them. They were 3 on 1 with him. I was feeling a little that even when Richi didn't quite get the ball under, there was another Spurs player in the vicinity that could double up with him.

I also noticed the ref was particularly harsh on Richi a few times last night. There were clear fouls on him just not given. I have no time for that with modern refs. Just use the laws of the game.

He has ability imo and always has had, where he has struggled is with the number of injurys he has suffered. Now IF and i accept that its a big IF he can stay fit for a while he can still be a asset for us.
