Savinho

I have to wonder if we won't be looking to try Kudus more centrally in the 10 spot but perhapos not with Madders-like 10ism? If you were to play Kudus, Savinho, Johnson as a three behind Solanke - providing Savinho and Johnson play narrow - it could cause chaos. The interchange between them would be dizzying!
If you allow the FBs to overlap, let Paulinho drop in for security and have one of Bergy/Bentancur as the progressive pivot, well, it could be fun???? The main issue is connecting front to back of course...perhaps we'll look to the likes of not just Bergy/Bents but also Porro to push up and pass acurately????
I think Kudus as the 10 could work quite well. Would give us quite a bit of what we currently miss. Would perhaps struggle to be much of a tempo setter or super creative passer, but he's good at retaining and progressing possession. The comparison to Dembele (style, not role/position) has been made.

No doubts Savinho would be a very good addition regardless. Personally I struggle a bit to see how we get that deal done, but perhaps he's looking at that City squad and wondering how much he'll actually play.

I could see it as move towards becoming a counter attacking side again. Break at speed with Savinho, Johnson, Odobert, Tel, Kudus etc. Not quite as much need for a Maddison-type in that setup. Not sure how that goes against Burnley, Leeds etc who setup with 10 players on the edge of their box for 90 minutes though.

And that sort of thing had Nuno hounded out within a few months.
100% going to be a counter attack side, can see it a mile off

I have no issue with it, IF we create on the break, you can be massively swashbuckling on the counter with pace, thats never the issue, the issue for Nuno as he is having now in Pre Season, is he broke every record on the books for games without a single shot on target. By the end we had lost the counter and were just a ridiculous low block with nothing else

Being able to break is vital. The "hang on for dear life" approach isn't a sustainable plan. The opponents need to really worry about what we can do on the break when we sit back.

Another issue is playing out through pressure. As we saw last season imo even smaller teams will be able to press high well - often more as a defensive strategy than in an attempt to dominate possession. If we can't get out it will leave us really struggling for significant portions of game.

The qualities you need for those two game states are quite similar. Creating counter attacking opportunities and creating "faux counter attacks" (playing out through a high press). Without that I think we'll be too limited even if we end up super resilient defensively.

Doesn't make sense to me this one

Tel seen as a CF maybe?

A lot of games this season. If solomon does go we have 2 strikers. Two lw. 2 rw (3 if kulu can play there) Any injuries we're in trouble. Tel, kudus, richy and odobert can play different positions which helps. But still leaves us a bit light numbers wise. As you move one it leaves another position weak.
So can see it.

Makes sense if Frank thinks one of Kudus, Odobert or Savinho would be a good solution as a #10.

Savinho is a really good player. Fantastic on his day. Only one goal last season, but 8 assists and showed in Spain that he can also score goals. Just 21, not yet fully developed.

A player you can just give the ball to. Loads of skill and trickery. Would help with our issues with ball progression, ball retention and chance creation.

Not a player physical enough to just hold off defenders and keep possession like that (like Kulusevski, Solanke, Kudus), but a player who thrives in tight areas none the less and (from what I've seen) give him the ball under pressure facing the wrong way he has the skill to keep it and be a threat.

No matter how we line up those are qualities we're very much short on.

This sounds good to me:

1) An actual upgrade to our wingers, whose creativity is pretty limited on the whole (if Kudus got injured we would be back to square one)
2) Can potentially be a short term solution to the number 10 problem - We still require an upgrade there regardless, but if either we have to wait for our preferred option until Jan/next summer and Frank sees a Kudus or someone else who can play there until Kulu is back then ok fine.

But to me the most important thing is that this would be an upgrade in quality/creativity to our first team which is massive....

I'm not sure that would work so well, a second dribbler through the middle. I wonder if the plan might instead be to end up more something like?:

-‐‐------------------------Tel
Savinho----El Khannouss---Kudus

That's more balanced for me, and frighteningly exciting too. I have a hunch that a more rapid and aggressive AM trio would suit Tel more than Solanke, but obviously it would rely on Tel finding his shooting boots

Oh I accept wholeheartedly that what I put out is not especially about balance with respects to a passing 10 v a dribbler/powerful runner...I just think Kudus could thread a quick and clever pass from a central area. We have to find a way to play Johnson right now; of all the fit players left to start the season, he is our leading scorer/assister. I still think (personally) that Frank is not going to try and sign a Maddison-like 10...

Brilliant player to watch, so my heart wants us to sign him, but not sure it makes sense with Kudus, Johnson, Tel and Odobert. As you all say, maybe Kudus centrally. I would be excited if we got him, loved watching him last season.

How many clubs have 3 CF first teamers?

I'm struggling to think of many

Someone's going to come back and list a load 😂

3 players that can play the role as well as others. We only have one out and out striker. Tel and richy can both play on the wing.
If we can get money for richy fine. But can see ys bringing savinho in even if richy stays.

Johnson can play that role as well, has done in the past.
