Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Veliz is supposedly pretty much off, Gil has offers as well, not sure why they would return

I guess if they are playing in the European league system they will need pre-season conditioning regardless. Is there an unwritten rule that most clubs keep all players fit and ready for transfer? I hated it when Chelsea told players not to come to their facility.

Veliz is going back to Argentina (supposedly), offers apparently have already been made.

Guess, fair re keeping them fit, but for Gil be interesting to see if we will actually waste time negotiating or just cut and run.

Gil has been here 3 years and appears to have never even been in the gym
That’s scary and shows a player who doesn’t take care of his physical capabilities for me
It’s impossible for even the insists weediest kid to not gain some muscle and strength with the right exercise
He would struggle to cut cheese he is as weak as tinkle

Gil is one of the strongest runners going when it comes to endurance, it was just him and Sarr out in front at the end of this endurance training session.

According to the SpursOTM Twitter account, Bryan Gil and Pape Matar Sarr were two players who stayed at the front and were running the hardest.

Endurance isn’t great when you bounce off the corner flag
We don’t need long distance runners

This just in, Bedford still doesn't like Gill. Next up we'll be finding out if water is still wet! Did he wrong you at some point? It's like that poster who seems convinced that Kane was responsible for covid19 and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. You seem fixated on belittling his physique.

It's always a funny one when football fans suggest a particular player goes to the gym..As if the coaching staff hadn't considered getting a player on a fitness plan that involved gym work.

I’m a big fan of @Bedfordspurs but I find his fixation on poor old Gill very odd. I don’t rate him either but don’t feel the need to bring him up in most threads!

For me it’s purely because he cost a lot of money and hasn’t made any effort to adapt
I find it kinda scandalous that it’s accepted TBH
Even Tanguy worked out to improve his physicality and he struggled as we know

We have binned him off repeatedly on loan back to Spain because he hasn’t hit the minimum level here
He has wronged me in that as a paying fan I have a minimum expectation of a sportsperson trying their best to reach their peak
When you meet the top people they always talk about the things you have to give up and the things you have to do
If your convinced that he has done everything possible to become strong enough to play here, then fine
I’m not. He may have all the tools in the box but he is too weak to lift the box
Look at previous small players in this league who came here and became the hardest bastards on the pitch… silva and modric and Bernardo silva too
He’ll Bergvall said it was the first big change he realised and fixed. It’s an athletic league where you need ro maximise everything

Surely having a winning mentality is more important than being a beefcake and at least he’s strong enough to lift the Europa / UEFA Cup unassisted!

TBF that’s a heavy trophy … it’s 15 kegs so almost as much as him
He has win that cup twice too
He didn’t okay first time and second time he started and played the first half but was subbed possibly because he was bouncing off people

It also depends on style of play. Not for Modric as much, world class is world class. Don't think Mourinho and Conte were good for Gil in that regard. Then Ange wanting touchline huggers.

We can't know that he's done enough, we also can't know he hasn't. The point about endurance is that you don't get to that level without being a real pro, working hard, doing everything you can. Never seen or heard anything pointing towards Gil not being a good pro.

The problem is whenever you call people out on it, the poster invariably takes it as a chance to go "But the thing is, yada yada yada blah blah blah" repeat ad nauseam as if they haven't stated their opinion enough times already. 60k posts and about 5k of them are aimed at someone who by all accounts is a consummate professional, with tedious jabs at immutable characteristics.

Quiz time - "He just needs to bulk up in the gym". Is this sentence more commonly uttered by rando blokes in the pub, or by leading sports scientists with years of experience in the field? The clue is, the person saying it is usually holding a pint of carling whilst everyone nearby groans.

I’ve never seen anything other than the fact all his loans have been back to the safety net of Spain
There is a reason he has been loaned back by every single manager he has had here … and I don’t think it’s because he can run far

Obviously he hasn't been loaned back to Spain because he can run far. That doesn't mean he's been loaned to Spain because he's not putting the effort in in the gym.

It means that no one in this country thinks he is viable for this country
Why is that?
I personally think it’s because they have looked at him and thought he blows over in the wind
In Spain the wind is calmer for him
It’s like when you go swimming in the sea … some is tough and choppy with horrible waves, and some has no waves and plenty of salt so is easy for you

He's got one year left on his contract.

My Spanish mate said to me when Gil joined us that Spain are really good at producing these technically gifted players who don't seem to have end product. They're all about the touches, passing and those little intricate skills more than what football is actually about. I have a feeling Gil might be in that category.

Obviously, Yamal and Williams may have changed that somewhat for the national team more recently.

I was hoping Gil would turn out like either David or Bernardo Silva. Obviously not.

Spurs do need a few quid from here, there and everywhere. When you take that Cardoso and Edwards money and put it with Hojbjerg and Gil that would almost amount to a very decent first team addition. Might need a little topping up but it all helps.

That is one conclusion to draw from that, amongst many possible conclusions.

Could have been because he just preferred it, because it was thought to be better for his development, because it was thought likely to better retain or keep his value in the transfer market...
