So, what happened today?

My youngest birthday today, he had day off and went to watch his son play for his college team and they won 15-0, my grandson not that pleased as he played left centreback, he played right wing and scored for his club side in cup game last night, he hates playing in defence, he's a natural for Spurs.

So I'm not really the protest type don't even sign petitions normally but my daughter convinced me to join her today. Heard some harrowing stories some men really should be locked up & the key thrown away

Oldest kid got sick on Monday. Threw up like crazy. Thought I'd avoided it, but no way Jose.

Simultaneously throwing up and bricking liquid is a recipe for disaster.

Luckily (?) the wife is away with work and wasn't here to witness the human fountain.

That's probably more than enough detail alteady, so I'll get back to my hot and cold, restless night now. Wish me luck.

Would anyone on this forum step on board a Boeing after the last few years?
Unfortunately for me Ryanair use 737s. My handy route for a lunchtime kick off is Belfast International>Stansted>Stansted Express, then return.

I flew on a brand new 737 Max from Dublin to Providence, Rhode Island in 2018 and the thought still gives me the heebeegeebees! The Pilot even announced a slight fault that they were trying to fix before taking off on the return flight. :grimacing:

Do most people have any awareness of what aircraft they will be flying on when booking a flight? Does it inform anyone's choice of which airline to book?
I certainly don't take any notice of that whatsoever. I couldn't tell you whether it's a Boeing or an Airbus or anything else, never mind the model.

When the Max issue was happening I avoided airlines that used them.

But I’m a nervous flyer, I hate it, I worry about things a lot more than most.

I do check the plane info on flight radar once it’s assigned.

Maybe not. I do. Airbus all the way for me!

I’m a nervous flyer too. Although I’ve got much better, I still hate turbulence. One time I flew from Honolulu to Vancouver and the airline emailed us the day before and offered us the chance to move the flight due to bad weather/bad conditions, just what you want to hear as a nervous flyer. The plane tilted just as it got into the air on takeoff , it was horrible! People clutching the arm rest, the rest of the flight wasn’t too bad thankfully.

Have you ever gone on spoken to the pilot? That may put your mind at ease somewhat, if did for me. Pilots really aren’t worried about turbulence, it’s more that they want the passengers to be comfortable. But yeah, any noise that sounds off and I brick myself. I always feel more comfortable flying over land than sea but yesterday’s events throws that assessment into doubt.

Turbulence has never brought down an airliner. The best way to think about turbulence is it is the plane riding air thermals and pockets of air like a boat rides waves. The thing that often freaks people out with turbulence is not just the general discomfort but often what happens is the pilots adjust the flying characteristics of the plane to move through it so you get the combination of the plane rocking and all these noises the plane makes as the pilots adjust engine thrust and trim to ride through it more comfortably.

Worst flight I've been on was flying back to the UK from Bergamo airport which is right on age edge of the Alps. Flight was in December and delayed for 3 hours due to bad whether. Took off into thick cloud and wind and the plane felt like it was in an almost vertical steep climb to get over the mountains. It was midday but really dark in the cabin due to the storm clouds the plane was rocking side to side and the engines were at full thrust for what seemed like an eternity before we broke through the cloud and leveled off. Everyone in that cabin was silent. Nobody was saying a word.

Funny that almost no one has a fear of driving as Steven Pinker says, despite it being far more dangerous. You don’t have any control when you get on a plane so that’s part of it.

Yeh I suppose it can be for some, for me its never been a thing.

Being able to see out a window of a car and speeds that seem faster and being able to see the number of cnuts on the road and on bikes makes it 10x worse for me.

I love flying,

Yeah I must admit it seems like the roads are getting worse. I travel on the A1/M25 or the A10 every day for work and at least once a day you’ll see someone drive across two lanes diagonally whilst not looking, changing lanes without indicating, hogging the middle lane or using their phone. If everyone just concentrated and didn’t speed then there would not be anywhere as many accidents.
