What a goal last night! Needs a song, how about

Siggy, Siggy, Siggy can't you see sometimes your goals just hypnotize me
and I just love your classy ways, Icelandic yid of White Hart Lane

Siggy played football, passin' good with Rafa and Bale,
And Vert from Holland, his crosses are grand
And never too far
Became the special man, now we were Siggy's fans

that goal last night was like Bergkamp, the way he ghosted into the box and brilliantly dug the ball out from under his foot and curled it into the top corner

He has the talent to be a Bergkamp for us

It was excellent technique, and I was pretty confident he'd score from that position (purely based on the goals i've seen him score already).

However he wasn't involved much in general play. That's the first preseason game I've managed to watch. Was that performance fairly typical? Or more of a one off?

Haha, quite like that. Can't see it being sung at a footy game, though. :D

its better he doesnt drop deep, he needs to stay as far forward as possible and be ready to create havoc when he gets the ball in and around the area.

once we have proper midfielders to supply him and the striker, we will see some fireworks imo

I completely agree, and something I posted earlier. However he still needs to try and find space to receive the ball in front of the opposition defense. But like you say, I don't think our midfield helped much.

I'm hoping you're right, this is the problem with pre-season games, you can't really determine anything of certainty in them. Sigurdsson wasn't brilliant on the ball previously. He was played deep against Galaxy and struggled to impose himself and hasn't really seen a lot of the action, but I think this will come when he begins to settle in, play with the right personnel and mature as a player.

He has always looked a threat around the box and from set-pieces especially though.

Sig has instantly made our set pieces look more dangerous.

Saw both Pool and Red Bulls games in person, think he had a better game vs Pool. What you don't see on tv is his runs. He makes a lot of runs, little dashes to make himself open or drag a defender away.

Does not remind me of Gerrard/Lampard in any way, his finishing is more VDV style, pass the ball into net.

I don't think that's going to be a problem with Parker, Sandro and the Hudd in our squad!!!
As for supplier, yes, Modric, yes Moutinho, but oh how I see Tom Carroll as developing (this season) into a major talent for the following season! I think he will have a breakout season this coming one, and could well find himself indefensible the season after...

Sigurdsson appreciation thread

I must be going a tad blind cause i couldnt find the other one. feel free to merge

I like this guy, he is a good footballer and smart / hard worker. perfect guy to play with what AVB is alleged to be.

starting to get a big man crush on him.

his set pieces early on were great too

very impressed with him
