Add me to the Carrick camp.

I think his problem is that he was never a tackling defensive midfielder, relying on positioning and interceptions rather than blood and thunder. Then on change of position he was very good at moving and making himself available for his defenders to make the outlet pass and then he could get the attack going. Unspectacular, most of the time, but very effective turning defence into attack. He played most games in his first three years at United and was integral to their three wins, thoroughly deseerving his winners medals (unlike another). His weakness is that he can't takeover and change a game, but he's one of the best at controlling the flow in the centre when operating with a well functioning team.

I'll confess I didn't fully appreciate him until he was gone. I realised he was important and knew we would miss him but it was hard to pinpoint what he did until we missed it. If its true Comolli convinced Levy that Zokora would be better and we alienated Carrick by refusing a better contract in the previous spring, then that was a big mistake.

Not a spurs fan?

Edit: We would be nowhere near ready, though if we knew it closed tomorrow we'd have gotten ourselves more ready..

I'm kinda in mjc's camp here...

Transfer window closing tomorrow would equal something like 3 incomings and possibly 4 outgoings before the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game knowing how Levy works.

What i liked most about Carrick was his passing. He could play it short and long, but what was key was that he could pass it forward, straight to the feet of our attacking players. He also had a decent shot on him, but he was rarely upfield enough to use it often

AVB says in his press con that the club will be looking at strikers next week.

So no new faces before Saudi Sportswashing Machine then?

We were not looking at strikers before then?

Or just that his week the focus was on Noocastle? Im sorry but what the fudge

"Jermain scored 17 goals last year. He was a key player and will continue to be. That's the expectancy I have with regards to his future.

Tremendous

"Competition is something that he is used to. The goal he scored yesterday (on Wednesday as England beat Italy 2-1) shows he can make the difference.

"He is tremendous. It was a great goal, he has great technical ability."

Defoe is the only senior striker on Spurs' books at present, but Villas-Boas intends to bolster his ranks before the transfer window slams shut - with it hoped that an agreement can be reached with Emirates Marketing Project for Adebayor, who took in a successful loan spell at White Hart Lane in 2011/12.

Villas-Boas added: "There are talks. They have been happening for quite some time.

"We have touched on different players in that position, but we have not been able to conclude a deal.

"Our focus and attention is towards that position, which we will try to sort out next week."

He also said 'next week' a week ago

Any player signed wont be registered in time for Saturday game anyway?

SSN have been reporting that RVP can play on Monday if the paperwork is in for tomorrow lunchtime, I assume the same counts for us.

Not that Im trying to get your hopes up!

We cannot submit paperwork which doesn't exist

Anyway - AVB's comments posted further up are the most telling factor for me - roll on next week, this one is gone, lads. Also - no Modric replacement before he's gone, which was a fair assumption to begin with.

Dont exist...yet. There are many hours until the deadline.

His comments were "next few days" from what I saw on SSN. he also pulled the harry classic "it is wiith the chairman" so as to distance himself from further questions. Im sat at home and have had it on in the background much of the afternoon.

He also said that Kane is thought of very highly and they are looking to bring him through, suggestive to me we might not see two strikers coming in. If you take his comments at face value of course.
