Fabio Paratici - Consultant

Good to finally have a decision made on it, can get on with things.

wish him all the best, thought he made some really good signings and even the ones that haven’t worked out so far (Perisic) you could see the logic behind.

He was ok but failed to identify the areas of the team that needed strengthening most and to strengthen those with priority. He also seemed to me too keen whether under instruction or otherwise to look for a deal rather than to identify the right player to buy.

Only have to look at our transfer activity last summer and see that the players that made the biggest impact were a loan and a free transfer. Those we spent money on have failed to make their mark so far.

Good that it isn't lingering on. Probably means we'll get a more attack minded manager in too.

Just hope that we have a plan for the summer window, with either a new DoF coming in asap or another clear plan on who is making the decision about summer signings. That role would have fallen to Paratici - not sure now who will make the call on signings and selling players

All about opinions isn’t it

Given the level of rebuild required, 'looking for a deal' isn't a bad approach in my view. On the other hand, if you have a squad which is 80%-90% 'right' and just needs tinkering with then I think you can be laser focussed on buying the perfect player...and if you're squad is 80%-90% right, it probably means you're doing well so are attractive to players who you want to sign.

I'm not sure that Richarlison and Bisouma not making their mark as yet is an issue with signing them, more on how they were or weren't used

Do you think the need to find and bring in a new DOF will now delay the decision on the new Manager? You'd assume they would need to be compatible right?

Imagine he went back to Mitchell and during discussions Mitchell says he doesn't fancy Poch or Slot etc. I suppose we have some time with it being close to the end of the season now

“As outlined in our year end results, we started several months ago to restructure our football operations and last week announced the appointment of Scott Munn as Chief Football Officer to head up all the departments. We shall continue to strengthen our football functions over the coming months.”

In terms of all the football departments, I assume these separate departments include things like:

- first team management
- scouting
- medical
- academy
- womens

...and outside of these 'football' departments are things like the stadium, commercial (incl retail), marketing, infrastructure, etc and I'd imagine that things like ticket pricing etc falls into commercial.

Could someone outline what we have in the 'scouting' department now that Paratici has gone. Steinsson is Performance Director, which I understood to be more analytics/operations and focussed on current team rather than signings?

I doubt it. I think Levy will go ahead with the manager appointment, with Munn helping him.

However broader question relates to my post just after yours - I wonder whether we will hire a DoF or change the structure? Not sure what we have in terms of scouts at the moment....though we do need someone to make the ultimate decision on who we sign, and I dont see that that is Munn

We spent £75m+ on Richarlison and Bissouma. Would it not have been better to have spent that sum on our defence? The biggest impact either of those two signings were likely to make were as squad players. Whereas we needed first team defenders. Add in that we wasted £20m or so on Spence when he clearly wasn’t wanted by Conte. And that’s near £100m we could have spent buying a top centre back and a top right wing back.

Did we need a Kane backup? Well as it happens, not really, that’s fortunate rather than anything else but it was a lot to spend on a backup.

Hooefully Destiny Udogie won’t be another waste of money when he arrives. He has been promising in Italy but unless we want to continue with highly attacking wingbacks then I question whether he might find himself arriving at the wrong time. Something which wouldn’t have been known at the time that he was signed and therefore I can’t attack this signing that heavily.

Maybe we tried for CBs but for whatever reason we werent able to land the targets which we were after, and hence picked up Lenglet on loan instead?

Not sure that that should prevent us signing Richie and Bisouma if we feel/felt that they were good players available at reasonable prices, which I think they are.

Kane back-up - its something which everyone has been moaning about for years (and rightly so!)

Paratici wasn't a scout so him going doesn't change anything there. There were a couple of announcements, after Paratici joined, about additions to the scouting team but can't remember what they were exactly.

Yes, other signings would have made more sense, but that's not what Conte wanted.

- I can pretty much assure you the club wasn't interested in signing Richi, Bissouma, Perisic or Porro, those were 100% Conte demands and built because the manager wanted 5 at the back with 3 up front.
- Sarr, Spence and Udogie are very typical Spurs signings that Conte was a prick about (hence the point above)

I can't blame the club or Paratici on the signings, and be like everyone else with "why hire Conte if you aren't going to give him his players?" we did. Conte needed to prioritize better, he wanted volume, see one of his interview comments last season about only having 13 players or some brick like that. I agree if we took the Richi & Porro money and spent it on one CB to play alongside Romero, Conte might still be here, we might still be in top 4, but that's on Conte not the club.

Sorry to see him go. Seemed like a good fit apart from the background at the rotten culture of Juventus.

Let’s sign some of these Chelsea cast offs in their anticipated summer firesale. Loads of English kids there and they usually have plenty of mileage in them when they move on.

Failed to strengthen the areas that in your opinion needed strengthening the most, maybe not Contes. He would have been given a budget to work in and would've looked for buys to maximise the impact of that budget, not just blow it all on one or two perfect players.

His buys have had a big impact, Romero, Bentancur and Kulu are his buys. That's over 25% of the first 11 are his buys.
We needed strength in depth up front and Richy provides cover for two positions. Conte refusing to not use him even though Son has been poor doesn't make him a bad buy. Bissouma was a bargain at £25m, he has been poor but I do believe he will come good and get to the form he showed at Brighton.

I wouldn't judge any players abilities on this season.

Agree that he wasnt a scout but presumably our scouting operations reported into him.

Would seem a little odd if the scouts reported into someone other than the guy responsible for transfers. You'd have the scouts recommending or otherwise certain players, and the DoF forming his own, separate view on player's abilities
