I still think we need strikers, one of which can offer competition/back-up to Bale & Lennon, a long term goalkeeping situation and a Modric replacement if he leaves. Other than that we're in decent shape, but those positions are all crucial.

Modric, Pienaar and Defoe out (£49m).

Moutinho and Ade in (30m).

That would be a pretty decent week, and leave us the time and funds to sort a 2nd forward and a GK.

Would be amazed if we got all that sorted in a week!

£9m for Defoe is a great price however just adds more work for us to do in a short space of time

If we were planning on selling Defoe, surely we wouldn't sell him while he is the only senior striker on the books. Get Ade and another done first.

Although it would be nice to think this has been done and all deals would be announced more or less at the same time.

Levy is trying to get Ade on a free

brazen cheek

I wouldn't be surprised. We have agreed a fee with City but, as we can't seem to finalise personal terms, we could go back and ask for some assistance. Mancini is stamping his feet about deals not being done, so City might be persuaded to help move Ade on.

If Defoe is on the way out I'm not too sure how I feel about that. On the one hand he's been a decent player for Spurs, and on the other he's frustrating as hell (especially in offside mode). I guess 9m for someone of Defoes age is very good business but I sure hope Levy knows what he is doing.

I still think 2 strikers are needed, even if Defoe does end up staying. I would think it's Ade, A.Nother, Defoe or Ade, A.Nother, Kane.

Defoe to QPR....not a chance

they already have Zamora, Cisse and A Johnson on big bucks, plus Mackie, DJ Campbell, Helguson, Bothroyd still hanging around, they dont need another forward

AVB doesn't play wingers per se. He plays fluid passing football through the middle with 3 fairly narrow CMs. If anything we possibly need cover for our inside forwards Rafa and Bale (which I know is kind of what you were suggesting).

The wide forward cover is more a nice to have this window though IMO, in comparison with the essential two #9s, a new Modric and a GK.

Maybe we should forget about Adebayor and buy both Leandro and Damiao and play him as a front 2.

He could have Leandro on his back and L. Damiao on his front.

Surely that solves all of our problems in one signing, isn't that right Gutterboy?

TBH Defoe so clearly doesn't work in AVB's system that he's pretty much useless to us now anyway. You might as well play Lennon as a lone forward for all the good Defoe will do there.

Release clause aren't binding for clubs outside Iberia anyway, so it'll come down to haggling no matter what. Just like we want £40m for Modric and will accept £35m. They want £30m and will likely accept £25m.

Moutinho is integral to Porto. They know we will be flush from Modric. They are reknowned for driving a hard bargain. Moutinho will not come cheap. Even at £25m (if we can manage that), there is a further £6m reported as a fee for Ade with another £5m as signing on bonus, which leaves them at £37m all in.
