Which player would you like to see take over from Luka Modric?

I like that we're handling the Modric issue better than their handling the RVP one.

It helps that we hold all the cards when it comes to Modric's contract situation whereas Arsenal are in the opposite situation with Van Rapist. You would think they would have learnt their lesson, it's not like this is the first time that this situation has arisen.

True. Won't exactly be the last either. I could see Walcott 'refusing' to travel to stay home with his mate RVP...

Interesting news on Tottenham TV deal in middle east coming up..
“@PeterClapp: Qatari/AlThani owned Al Jazeera in M East now broadcasting a THFC Club Channel (no.529) - no announcement, just happened...”
Royal Family owned station now broadcasting a THFC channel. Read into what you will

so there were talks, but not about takeovers/investments, but about a THFC channel....truth always comes out

Not sure Ive even seen Cazorla play so cant comment on him at all. Though Im sure I saw people on here saying he could play as one of a front three?

Moutinho, however, is my personal #1 choice to replace Modric, would love him at the Lane

He could, I think, easily play on the left/middle in a midfield three or wherever Modric is supposed to play this season. And if Cazorla is available at around €20 mill. then I'd take him instead of Moutinho. Would love Moutinho but Porto are Levy in disguise, doubt they will buckle on the price, which is alot more.
It would also allow us to invest some more cash in a striker, Lewandowski maybe?

lets just buy Dembele instead....10-15 mill is a a Levy bargain, i dont know why we havent done this deal

or Gourcuff at lyon, he is available and will cost the same as above

Moutinho will be too expensive, we really need to accept this and move onto more affordable targets

IF Modric is staying behind while the rest go on tour it either means a deal is near or he's unhappy. Either way we would need another midfielder.

As long as Moutinho costs less than we sell Modric for why would he be too expensive?

He is widely reported as our number 1 target, I can certainly see why - so even if we are prepared to over pay on him (compared to what you think he is worth) why would that be an issue?

Lloris, Gourcouff and Lopes from Lyon, would make me happy. Would only cost about 65m pounds.. lol

Lisandro Lopez??? he would have to cost 35 mill (which is doubt) then because Lloris and Gourcuff wont cost more than 30 mill combined imo. Lloris wants to leave and Gourcuff is up for sale

I think the media is setting Mautinho as no 1 target simply because of AVB ties..

think it is very possible that we are not remotely interested

Out of interest, anyone who know the legal consequences of the scenario where a player stuck on a long-term contract refuses to abide by it? Breaching a contract in other words?

And sticking someone who is clearly too good a player in the reserves as punishment, is that ok in legal terms? I think I read something about that on this forum a few years ago, that it would be against some EU law related to the rights of workers?

Edit: Probably related to Berbatov

i think weve had this discussion before, and yes theoretically to sell Modric for lets say 33 mill and then to buy Moutinho for lets say 28 mill makes perfect sense to us as fans

but Levy is a business man might not see it like this....just a hunch thats all

Moutinho has already given a glowing interview about AVB in which he states "I would work with him tomorrow"

Im quite sure AVB was asked about him and said he would be interested.

After that it is a lot of supposition I suppose, like most reporting - but it makes enough sense that its not unreasonable to take it at face value.

Given all the added expenses with agents and such it's virtually non profit and we can't really expect Moutinho's value to rise much more.

Goran Pandev and Lazio....

"In the summer of 2009, a dispute between Pandev and Lazio president Claudio Lotito erupted, resulting in a legal battle between Pandev and his club. The ruling was announced on 23 December 2009.[6][7][8]
The dispute started with Pandev indicating his desire to leave Lazio during the summer of 2009. Club president Lotito, apparently unhappy with Pandev's decision, froze him out of the squad. As a result, Pandev spent the remaining four months training on his own, without making a single appearance for his club. During this period, various clubs had indicated their interest in buying Pandev, most notably Zenit St. Petersburg, who made an offer of 13 million euros for the player. Lazio president Lotito rejected the offer, demanding 15 million euros instead. The deal eventually fell through after both parties failed to come to an agreement on price.[9]
On 26 September, Pandev officially filed for a termination of his contract with Lazio, having been frozen out of the squad and labelled a 'rebel' by the club. Pandev argued that by freezing him out of the squad, Lazio had violated the terms of their contract with him. On 23 December 2009, Lega Calcio ruled in Pandev's favor, ordering Lazio to release Pandev from his contract and pay him 170,000 euros for emotional distress. Lotito indicated his desire to appeal the decision. ""

You just stated categorically "Moutinho will be too expensive, we really need to accept this and move onto more affordable targets" as though it is fact. Is it a fact or is it now a hunch?

In business terms the simple equation Modric - Moutinho = Profit should illustrate that while its a lot of money it doesnt mean its not the sort of decision a 'business man' would make.

I do appreciate it looks as though Moutinho will be very expensive. And his reported price is somewhere above where I would consider his 'true' value to be. That said, I believe a players REAL value is whatever the buying club are willing to pay to get his services. It represents what he is worth to them.

What is his worth to us?

Personally I think he is a fabulous player. I do believe he is one of few able to replace Modric in our side without us losing quality in the process - no mean feat. I also believe his signing could be the single biggest chance AVB has of a successfull career with us. A midfielder (key position), of high class, who already knows EXACTLY how to play the AVB way? Given that we are to transition into a new playing style thats possibly priceless right now.

Its a very good chance with Moutinho we can hit the ground running, that AVB can establish his authority/position as THFC Manager and avoid he pitfalls of a shaky start.

Also, as a club our ambitions are to aim high - to target regular CL football. We have sacked an established and successful manager and brought in a new one whom we believe will improve us further. We have to back this man, at the very least initially, and give him the tools he requires to do his job.
