Omt - Tottenham vs Boro

There's something really bent about that.

Ref blows up before the end of the match despite all the extra time wasting

Noticed that as well.
Boro-keeper held on to the ball for near 30 seconds on one occation, ref didn’t bat an eyelid.

now, there is time wasting, and there is whatever he did.

Cudos to Boro, though. They wanted it, they deserved it.

The big gamble in the window was leaving ourselves with only 4 midfielders. 2 of which we are now firmly aware aren’t really good enough to play every game (or were maybe tired).

We could have been creative today and played Rodon or Sanchez and moved Dier into CM maybe. Other than that - we are out of options.
As much as I don’t rate Sanchez I would rather have him at cb and Romero in CM rather than the chuckle brothers bringing their unique brand of running through treacle, poor passing and having the physical presence of a paper bag. Not saying others aren’t gash and weak tonight too but we got worse the less the ball was getting worked forward and players seemed to over compensate the worse we / they got.

I'd like an evolution of approach. The counter attack as a philosophy can certainly be effective but even with some of the best counter teams I can remember (Real 2010-2014, Dortmund 2011-2013, Fergie Era Utd, just off the top of my head) they all had the ability to control matches
They all had periods where they needed to look after the ball. We are pretty good at the counter part but a bit brick every other than running directly at the opposition goal and scoring.

I have no doubt in my mind that Redknapp would have this team playing good football and challenging for that top 4.

With what midfield? With what creative play maker?

We have nothing in there, who links the play?

Let’s just sack another manager instead of backing him, maybe 5th time lucky and it’s not the players?

Would he coach the tinkle poor defenders to be better?

Ah fudge, I wasn't going to have a go but him and PEH were fudging appalling. Backwards and sideways. Winks is a bit more adventurous than PEH but that's more a reflection on PEH. The one where even Murphy was exasperated and said "too safe". We're 1 down with 3 mins of extra time to go and he lays one off to the right back or centre back rather than looking ahead. And the 20 yard ball he put out of play at the end? Jesus Christ. This lad talks the talk as if he's some sort of winner but he's a nothing player. And Winks, sad to say, is not much better. I'm almost longing for Sissoko back.

Winks and Hojberg are morphing into each other. It’s strange to watch.

I know people stick up for Hojb when he has a good game but they are the outlier now. The poor games should be the outlier. When he’s tired and not 100% he pretty much loses all intensity and quality.

He was knackered after City then played 90 against Burnley and Leeds. Today was a bridge too far.

I think he’s suffering from having to play every game and not fight for his place.

I don't think Conte is just about counter attack, it's more a case of we don't have the players to play the way he wants.
We badly need a couple of midfielders that are comfortable on the ball to really see what way Conte wants to play.
The only choice we have is to cut the midfield out as much as possible and get the ball quickly into the attacking players.

We haven’t seen Sanchez for a while, hoping Winks will fall down that hole too if we ever get our CM back.
Theres no one else now with Ndombele and GLC on loan and Bentancur and Skipp injured. Our midfield which was of low quality anyway is basically threadbare. We probably need 3 CMs in the summer. That can include Sarr as an option but a minimum of 1 other but preferably 2.

Hence the weaker squad comments from conte.

Conte. Zero points. Wrong team, wrong tactics , poor subs ( and too late) lack of enthusiasm from him. Played on the back foot. Ceded initiative. No movement. No desire. An anemic performance. Just like Burnley. Second best all over the park. No plan B. No pace to our game. Just appalling.

We look tired and well played
Middlesbrough
We move on, dry your tears people

I can't accept tiredness for tonight. They made one change I think from a defeat to Barnsley on Saturday.

These boys should be embarrassed by that. We could all see second half, Middlesbrough just wanted it more. You get this brick after every big win of "We have to take this on and use it as a foundation". How you do that is bust a nut in these games and dig out a result when you aren't playing well. Our boys were fudging cowardly tonight. I fudging hope there are some fists thrown in that dressing room tonight. Now I think of it, there was one Hugo gonaded PEH out of it for losing the ball softly and not doing enough to get it back. Hope he remembered that at full time.

Tonight is absolutely not acceptable. If you lose, fair enough but the manner of the defeat has made me angrier than I've been for a long time.
