Understand #Real Madrid's Carvalho remains a top target for #THFC. AVB keen to remove Gallas from squad - being touted to #QPR and #WHUFC.

re Higuain: i've heard tales of a potential season-long loan deal as it goes. only tales though - and there are plenty of them at the mo!!!

re Sigurdsson: Gylfi Sigurdsson's move to #THFC should be finalised tomorrow. Won't tell you how much his contract's worth for fear of ridicule!

After a few questions he said £60K

Weren't there stories linking Gallas with QPR before?
Maybe that was AVB pulling strings before announcement or is this trying to create a sub-plot with AVB vs player/s? Or am I reading too much into that?

I think it's good to pay fair wages for the value you perceive you're getting, rather than try to short-change a player if you can try it. It's only gonna tinkle them off, risk them wanting to see if any other others are around or if they still join, they'll want a new contract soon after anyway.

If we view Siggy as a regular starter and someone capable of scoring 10-15 goals from midfield next season, plus a fair amount of assists, there's not much argument to say we should be paying him much less than that, because it seems like he will be one of our key performers. If players are paid what they are worth to us, they will be happy. Short changing them is a brick move. As long as we have a clear wage structure that we can sustain, we will always be ok.

Think it's better to try and hold back on wages for new signings and rather give them a new deal if they prove themselves. Otherwise we could end up with a lot more Bentleys sucking us dry as we can't offload him anywhere.

We can sustain it now, but he's 22. On a five year contract he'd be 27 when it finishes. If we don't sell him we'll have to offer him a new contract at some point, at which point (without the new stadium) we'll be breaking our wage brackets..

Which so far we've only done for Bale/Modric. I'm not sure he'll be that good. Just hope the stadium is on course i guess.

POTL

Who's this fella and what has he done with the real POTL? Still just rehashing what others say though.

if sherwood is the DOF as expected, then I believe the first signing would be announced by both him and AVB?

and isn't carvalho too slow now to defend with a high line?

Perhaps. Although the good thing about not holding back is also that if we offer what we think is fair, while the club we are competing with says 'We'll match your Swansea wages' it helps us secure that player, and I'd rather secure someone we deem to be important to our system than let them go. Especially if we can afford it and sustain it. If he then needs another new contract because he's done really well, become one of our absolute best players and has Real/Barca interested, then we can offer him the top wage our structure will allow or say no dice. Or if we have more finance by that point we can maybe increase it slightly like we seem to have done with Bale.

I think it was a brick move from Liverpool because if you have his old manager telling him he's going to be vitally important, he's going to be the next Gerrard etc etc then you can't offer him 30k while most other players will be no nearer 50k. Similarly with us, I imagine 30k would probably put him on maybe BAE's wages or a little bit beyond. I just don't think it's right to offer someone who we will likely see as a key attacking midfielder who will get us goals and assists (and these players aren't easy to come by) wages of a full back.

The other thing is that Sig is 22, if he doesn't work out, he'll still have a few takers because he's young and proved himself from a young age. Only if he is a Bentley-esque disaster will we be stuck with him. Bentley is pretty much an exception though, a bizzare signing that had Commoli written all over it, paying the peak price for an English player when we weren't even in need of a right winger.

What the fudge is this fudging fascination with Sigurdson - you guys just desperate to sign someone?

Its like not getting your groove on for so long that you would just go shag anyone no matter what.

im sure thats a big part of it:)

I am sure he is a genius but hardly exciting and hardly one that will take us to the upper echelons of the league (which im presuming is why most people wanted Harry gone huh).

I've just thought, is Falque coming back to us or going on loan again?

Is he someone that may work in an AVB system?

Discussing someone we've already 'supposedly' signed..

Nope I dont mind people are discussing it, its a forum after all, what I dont get is what people see in Sigurdsson. I think its desperation than anything else. The guy was ok last season and im unsure why after half a season in the premiership we are going after someone. I thought we learnt our lesson about one season (half season in this case) wonders like Bentley etc.

We need to bring in someone though and he's at least reasonably priced. I think in AVB's mind only Modric and Sandro are first choice, the other CMs are either not good enough, too slow or just not suited to his system.
