This is an interesting article on how a conspiracy theory self perpetuates through the right-wing ecosystem. Sort of like a perpetual motion machine fueled by hate.
 
Airbnb have cancelled all bookings in Washington DC for Inauguration week, guests refunded but hosts still paid in full.

I'm sure some hosts will just rent out privately though...

I can understand the police being pretty restrained in the face of a crowd with guns - they don't want a bloodbath.

But it also seems very easy to get to the heart of govt - you would there would be better emergency doors to create a perimeter.

You are right though. It was quite shocking that the capitol was so easily breached. When you consider who was in there and who was outside, climbing through a broken window just seemed a little too easy. I don't think it has quite sunk in yet how close that came to being a monumental clusterfudge of a hostage situation (or even worse) capturing the line of presidential succession. Blind luck and one brave cop seem to have been the difference.

Restrained because they weren't prepared for what they were facing.

Not prepared for what they were facing because white fascist/nazi/alt-right threats haven't been seen or treated as that up until this point at least.

I mean even after the fact a lot of people don't see this as an attack on democracy. The conspiracy that this was some left-wing false flag operation is spreading. Because it's just so difficult to imagine that these bastards would do something so bastardly.

I've just finished reading 'If Only They Didn't Speak English' by Jon Sopel, BBC North America correspondant (he also mentions he is a Spurs fan), and can highly recommend it. Helped me understand the American psyche more, along with why Trump appeals. It was written in 2018, but still very relevant, possibly even more so with all the recent developments/nonsense.

I suggest you reevaluate how and where you get your information if your current strategy has resulted in a mindset where posting a source to your claim would make you my lackey.

I feel sorry for you that your experiences have resulted in this strange view on what the consequences of posting a link would be. I do hope I didn't hurt your feelings by asking you for said link.

I wouldn't worry about it. "Do your own research " is the stock far right wing response, to when they are challenged about sources.

I have literally heard it numerous times reeled off with other stock phrases in interviews with trump supporters... I would bet that there is a list of things to say circulated on parla or Qnon or whatever
