I think Camavinga would be a great replacement for Sissoko eventually. Also confirming from FM scouting :)
 
Wonder if Levy will try and stretch as much as he can within the boundaries he rightly sets, to help Mourinho get as close to the line as possible.

You have to think we are inching ever close to something at last.
 
The Athletic had this to say on Szoboszlai today

Few players have been more heavily linked with a move in the next transfer window than Dominik Szoboszlai and when the market opens on January 2, his future is expected to be swiftly resolved.

Among the most promising, coveted and talked-about young talents in world football, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder is tipped to leave Red Bull Salzburg after two-and-a-half years with the Austrian side.

Reports have asserted that Salzburg’s sister club RB Leipzig are leading the race, with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur also claimed to be in the frame.

Szoboszlai is being considered by Arsenal as they look to enhance their creativity and goalscoring capabilities, but he is one of several options and it remains to be seen if they will enter the battle.

His Salzburg contract, which expires in 2022, includes a €25 million release clause and although that is enticingly low, The Athletic has learned of some details which might not make it achievable for all interested parties.

Contrary to suggestions that the fee can be financed by way of instalments, it is actually understood to require full payment in one go and within two weeks of the clause being triggered.

There is then thought to be a 20 per cent sell-on mechanism which, unusually, applies to the entire fee of a future transfer and not just the profit. So, for example, if he arrives for €25 million and leaves for €100 million, Salzburg get 20 per cent of €100 million rather than 20 per cent of the €75 million difference.

While that may not be ideal in the eyes of Szoboszlai’s admirers, most will view it as a minor inconvenience for a player of such quality, who comes relatively cheap and has high resale value.

The reason it is anticipated the situation will develop rapidly is, according to sources, a stipulation that Szoboszlai must give notice by December 15 of his wish to depart Salzburg and that bids must be lodged by December 31. It is unclear if the Hungary international has expressed this desire or if offers have been received.

In the unforeseen event of Szoboszlai still being at Salzburg in the summer, the same arrangement is believed to kick in again, with notice having to be given by June 30 and bids lodged by July 15.

Szoboszlai joined Salzburg from Liefering in January 2018 and has scored 25 goals in 79 appearances, including four goals (as well as five assists) in 10 Bundesliga games this season.

Competing in the Champions League has propelled him into the wider consciousness and on Wednesday, there will be no shortage of focus on the playmaker when Salzburg host Atletico Madrid in their final match of the group stage knowing victory will seal a place in the last 16.

Historically I’ve always felt levy is more inclined to spend when we look vulnerable as opposed to when things are going well, but I’m hoping he’s learned that if you don’t strengthen even when you are performing well things can go stale / backward very quickly. I think Mourinho made some comments to the effect regarding Liverpool too.

This lad is class
I’ve watched him since the middle of last season if I could (so not easy) and only to see how Salzburg play a so was planning a trip out there
He is a proper player
Eriksen with deceptive pace and swagger
He plays like Ginola actually just more central and strikes the ball so well
Whoever he goes too have a potential world class player on their hands for very little money

Harry Brooks thinks that he could be good played deeper, as a Sissoko with technique.

Not IMO
He is a tip of the midfield triangle
If we could get tanguy or lo Celso taking over from Sissoko at some point, he could shine in that more advanced midfield position. He would need to work on his defensive side

I had the conversation with HB about him 9 months ago ish on Twitter and he didn’t know much about him at the time

Obviously that's where he's playing very effectively now. HB thinks that he has the strength and energy to be effective deeper. He thinks that Lo Celso is too direct to play there long term, his first instinct is to get forward. Ndombele isn't well suited to doing the donkey work that Sissoko does or at least it would be a waste of his talents.

I agree that tanguy isn’t suited to it but he could play there in a Different way like Dembele used too
Szobszlai has the energy I agree, and strength but not the discipline
 
If we had Szobszlai on board, no way I'd want to see him being a DM. Far too much natural attacking talent. He's criticized for not being a better defensive player. You can teach other players how to defend. You can't teach them the Gord-given gifts this guy has.

My thoughts on January window

- Levy will be opportunistic (from all reports Bergwijn & Reguilon were opportunistic buys, we liked/followed both but were not actively targeting, availability/price, we moved and did the deal)
- I think if Jose tell Levy if he really needs/wants someone, if so and within reason, we will likely try

The success of recent buys will probably make the club bolder as well#
- PEH & Reguilon are buys of season type
- Vinicius with limited data is looking like the best 2nd striker option we have had in years
- Bale is fudging Gareth Bale and the lift alone he brought to group is worth it
- Only Doherty worries me a little and his price tag is probably justified by the fire he lit under Aurier's ass (guy is looking like a 50M defender now)

From previous seasons there have not been that many top players who have moved in the Jan window so i do not think we need to buy just for buying's sake. We have a massive squad and several of those players have not really played that much so i do not think we have to rush in and buy anyone.

I would rather wait to the end of the season and will then probably have a much bigger pool of players to choose from. But it does not matter what i or any other fan thinks it will depend on what Jose wants to do.
