Transfer thread

This isn't too do with our wretched season, as I think it would have been true before, a key player for Atletico is not going to up sticks and move to us unless there's a real bizarre combination of circumstances. Makes me giggle a bit when I see posters thinking we're head and shoulders above that kind of team. Totally agree that Partey be a great signing but it's kind of obvious, it's more the realistic yet great signings we need for the summer.
I agree. I didn’t actually think he would leave them for us. We need to shop at the next level down.

He's only 17 and I think that we probably need someone with a little more experience but I think that he'll get a big move this summer
Totally agree.

Imagine we will go for more experience. You would hope on the most part our youth team can provide the players of the future and we only buy proven world class talent.

I think that is what Poch wanted and that is the point of the stadium build.

I wonder if the lockdown is going to have an effect on how much clubs spend in the transfer market of clubs are not sure of their liabilities (refunds) and future incomes.

Would like to see the prem help out the lower leagues but doubt it will happen.

I was thinking about this earlier. I think that there is a fair chance that a lot of next season is played behind closed doors. Players at the end of their contract are going to be offered dramatically reduced terms.

An upside to this. Seeing those over paid pricks lose money.

Along a similar line I have been thinking how football is getting younger and younger. Used to be defenders could go on to mid 30s now they look finished at 32.

Verts would be well advised to sign anything that is offered

Agree about Vertonghen which is a shame as he was our player of the season a couple of years ago. He’s been one of our best defenders of the last 25 years. To see his decline is sad but I guess inevitable with his ageing.

Same here, his game has dropped of a cliff and i do not remember it happening so quickly for any other player for us.

I think that he's been ok in his last couple of games though. The main thing is that he can't play CB alongside Alderweireld anymore

Your right as a pairing it leaves us open, Jan will still look good on occasion as he is a class player but sad to say he is not as consistent as he was.

I'm not sure that it is viable to have a situation where we have two senior CBs who can't play together.

Alderweireld has signed a new contract, so it's Verts. I think that he is the right one to let go but I'll be sad.

I would love to see Jan stay, I would guess they both will try and have a talk with Jose and see if they are still in his plans.

Alderweireld seems to have more in his legs but we'd have to pick the games he can play in. Getting outrun by Giroud the other week should be a major concern.

I think both of them obviously suffer with too much game time, rotated and fresh they are ok, after long travel and/or multiple games they look old.

Said it before, if Jan had another year in his contract, I'd be ok with seeing it out, not sure it really makes sense giving him a new one.

My theory is the same will happen to kane because of the injuries and the over workload. Feel he has 2 more seasons in him.

Not happened to us to much but a few footballers have dropped off a cliff suddenly.
