Troy Parrott

Has to play some part now or he never will.
Completely disagree, he is a kid. I don’t remember many 17yr olds playing premier league football and Mou is clearly putting out strong teams in the cup.

Have to also remember, as many have said, it’s as important for Mourinho that spurs do well for his reputation, and he sees the kid in training every day, if he was in any way ready I think he would be playing games already.

Ultimately, he should be allowed to develop without high expectations and without the pressure of leading the line. People did this with Edwards and look how that turned out, believed his own hype and stopped working hard and is now nowhere really.

Absolute amateur nonsense from the club here.

With clubs sniffing around Spurs were obviously open to loan. So Parrott thought there was a chance of a loan and wanted a loan.

But someone at club is instead looking at next season European squad registration. This season Parrott needed to be registered as one of the non homegrown 17 in the main squad A list. He doesnt qualify as one of the u21s on the B list as he hasnt been eligible to play for the club for 2 years since the age of 15. This is because Parrott only officially joined at the age of 16. So Parrott is a week short of Uefa's deadline.

Obviously someone at the club though they could fudge this week and Parrott would still be B list elgible next season. But now they realise it's "too complicated".

This is why the loan has been pulled.

But next season's Europa League(if we even get there) squad isn't important. The 17th player will be a third keeper or a Wanyama.

Parrott has been fudged out of a loan move on the flimsiest pretences.

Your negative whining and slant on stories such as this is predictable and tiresome but I urge you not to stop.
It helps those who disagree really value and appreciate their own position.

Honestly, what a miserable, snide post full of assumption and judgement against the club; it'd be worthy of reading on KUMB.

It's probably not just about the immediate CL/Europa squads though. Him being classed as club trained will be an advantage to us as a few years. The player needs two uninterrupted years at the club and I think him moving out on loan would have meant that didn't happen.

No to qualify as club trained once he turns 21, he needs 3 years at the club (interrupted or not) between the ages of 15 and 21.
That will be be in September 2023 anyway.
Why would the club be planning for that when his contract is up in summer 2021. And stopping him from going on loan for 5 months might put him off signing a new contract. We should be doing everything to get him onside.

He's 18 in a week. Greenwood and Martinelli are doing exactly that for United and Arsenal.

You can't compare Parrott and Edwards (who has fallen on his feet in Portugal)

All you ever hear from Parrott's managers at international level is how good his attitude and character is.
Proper 'football man' Mick McCarthy - “What I love about Troy Parrott is that when you are left out of the team, that you come on and have an effect, you don’t come on and sulk, so fair play to him, I am delighted for him,”

There's no way of shielding Parrott from expectations. The entire country of Ireland is talking about him. The national team manager was asked every press conference why he wasnt in the squad until he was eventually called up. It's Mourinho gets so many questions about him. Journalist know stories about him will get clicks. You can't treat him as a normal underage player who will be happy to sign a contract without promises.

There is no one size fits all, worked for him so will for him or didn’t for X but will for Y.

Strikers peak early defenders take time to adapt. League is littered with success of 16 years + strikers bursting on scene and if they are not gonna make it they likely never will.

Let’s make him wait a year to be stuck behind a fit Kane and maybe other at 19 or try him now with no noticeable option and see.

No one loses out and what’s the point of cultivating talent if we don’t try.

And frankly if I’m honest he is a footballer he should play, if the pressures maybe too much I’m not that bothered

There is a type of striker that peaks early in this league, rashford and Greenwood was mentioned - could also throw in Owen into that mix they are lightning fast, tricky strikers.
Others seem to have to grow into their bodies a bit before they are able to handle prem league defenders such as Kane.
When he first came on for us, despite scoring at all levels, he looked out of his depth and many thought he wouldn’t make it, just look back at the early posts in the Kane thread.
Not seen much of Parrot but he doesn’t strike me as particularly fast so playing him now before he is ready could have an adverse effect on his development, destroy confidence etc.
Ultimately if Mou doesn’t think he is ready I am fine with that, it doesn’t mean he won’t make it, just not now.

Could not agree more, if we were in control of matches going into the last 15 minutes or so ( and we are not) then i could see a case for bringing him on. However we are struggling to win games and putting undue pressure on him at 17 could backfire.

I think that there is also a question about how much he'd learn in fifteen minutes when the team are seeing a game out. I hope that he signs a new contract next week, gets some minutes this season but spends next season playing first team football on loan.

Fair point but it would help in the settling him in to he first team without too much pressure on him.

Do you know anything about start he wants? I haven't seen much in the media from him...

Perhaps us planning for how to include him in the squad next season pleases him? Perhaps being coached by Mourinho and our coaches at this point is exactly what he needs?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't both Greenwood and Marinelli on significant length contracts? I don't think it's unfair for a club to ask for some commitment from the player before giving them game time at the highest level.

You can't shield him from expectations, that's true. But that doesn't mean that expectations can't be influenced. Out on loan, playing regularly surely would come with the expectations of goals and performances?

Great if his attitude and character are spot on. If he's looking at the teams we're currently sending out what is he seeing? Tanganga starting massive games, young players being signed and played. Winks and Kane as established players from our academy. If that's not enough to convince him that this is a good club for him despite him not getting any real game to time at 17 I'm not sure the fit between the player and club is that great.

He came to Spurs, presumably for a reason. He signed for a big club, competing at the highest level with massive competition for places. Was he expecting an easy ride and getting on the pitch regularly at 17? Or is he here to work hard every day in training, improve step by step and be ready for when his manager thinks he's good enough?

Mourinho: "Sign the contract, you play"

*Parrott signs, is left out of U23 squad. Will feature mid-week*

Similar process to Tanganga then, he committed and will hopefully be rewarded.
