Dele Alli

I actually thought he was good yesterday, he is playing out of his best position though. Doing a job for the team which is affecting his overall game.

Agreed. But why play him in this position in the first place. If NDombele came in, ( even for 45 minutes) then he could be played in his more natural position. Makes little sense to me.

Indeed! I can only guess it is about trust? Trusting that Ndombele is fit enough? Trusting Ndombele? How Mourinho handles him is going to define his tenure IMO. He has a worldly talent there who needs man management, encouragement and guidance. I agree - put him in there and let Dele play closer to his natural position. We can only hope there is a plan. But right now, Mourinho knows he can trust Dele and that he can do OK in there.

We seem to agree on this. But if it is just fitness with NDombele, why not initially give him 45 mins shared with say Jedson.

Dele just “ doing ok in there” is not really a solution as it takes away one of our main goal threats. In the absence of Kane this is even more critical.

I think this is probably near the truth, maybe Jose can see there is going to be a lot of expectation on Ndombele from some supporters (we have already seen some questioning his signing) and because of this wants to be sure he is ready and fit enough.

Until the manager gets a striker or two, it is what it is. There is not a person on this forum who does not want Dele off a striker, but right now we don’t have one!!!!! Lucas is not able to hold it up. Llorente would’ve done a great job with out current tactics.

That is why I maintain a true beast of a CF should be our highest priority this window. Even when Kane returns it would allow him to drop off a true CF ( a position which he would excel at as it gives him more space) and at the very least allows rotation and stops Kane burning himself out by having to play so many games.

This could well be me not understanding the rules but.... why did Dele have to leave the pitch after being treated for the Sterling tackle? Sterling was booked, so Dele as the injured player doesn't have to leave the pitch?

Always have to leave the pitch if you have treatment unless your a keeper

If they did I didn’t know it

I remember being at a Wembley game (can't recall which one) and everyone was going mad that an opposition player wasn't made to leave the field after getting treatment. A bloke in front of us then said that the rule had changed. I've seen it since in our favour.

Edit :

From the FA
  • Exceptions to the requirement to leave the field of play are only when:
    • a goalkeeper is injured
    • a goalkeeper and an outfield player have collided and need attention
    • players from the same team have collided and need attention
    • a severe injury has occurred
    • a player is injured as the result of a physical offence for which the opponent is cautioned or sent off (e.g. reckless or serious foul challenge), if the assessment/treatment is completed quickly
    • a penalty kick has been awarded and the injured player will be the kicker
Maybe treatment was deemed to have taken too long so he had to go off.

Was that Barcelona? It was the blonde CB whose name I can’t remember, he didn’t go off. Was a joke and an error at the time

Under rated performance yesterday looking at scores in media etc

Worked his ass off after having his ankle almost snapped in two

Totally agree.
But all the media just say it was a fluke result! Which is totally gonad*s!
The whole team put a real shift in and for that alone they deserved some credit.
