With the limited time available, what should happen over time is that the players who are intelligent enough to understand the system quickly will be the ones who thrive.

If we are going to improve the pool of players available in the long term in England, then we have to start educating younger players about systems, tactics and movement. This needs to be demonstrated from the top - as painful as it may be to watch with the current set of players.

I agree about the first point. On the second, I would prefer that we concentrated on technique with young players.

Mate, my issue with Kelly (beyond the fact that he's not good enough to own the spot on a brick Pool side) is really the 6 Pool selections.

For me that screams Roy (despite being back in the PL for what 4 years now?) does not have a good knowledge of English players, really he picked 6 players just as a coincidence from the team he used to manage?

How prepared is he going to be for players from European sides?

I think that the reason he has selected back up players from Liverpool is because he needs the players who know each other as he does not have enough time to integrate new players from other clubs into the squad. There aren't that many clubs with a wealth of English players.

Looking at squad selections going back quite a few years now, it's not how good YOU are, but what club you play for.

Because whether we like it or not at international level you need a manager with a bit of tactical knowledge, at least Hodgson has showed that with Fulham and WBA he can get a team organized( getting Fulham to a finla with basically average players was a sign of that). Redknapp may be a good motivater but so was KK and look what happened there, you need more and Redknapp has not got it. IMO

I disagree, obviously there is more than one way to skin a cat - but where England is concerned I think Harry was ideal.

We dont have technical or tactical players, not particularly. Boot camps working on formations isnt going to particularly cut it. Things Harry would do that would?

- Motivate them, fire them up to play (when was the last time we really saw a roaring 3 lions team?)
- Be brave enough to give youth a chance. Naughton, Caulker and the like might have made the squad. (Naughton, justifiably should be tinkled off he hasnt IMO)
- Play out his tactics through selection. Much like Spurs the players play their game, Harrys tactical input is generally at the selection level. Would suit all involved.

We dont have the players or time with players to implement the tactical game you are talking about, so the alternative is the anther way - Harry is perfect for that IMHO

For my sins I actually really rate Kelly and am amazed he did not displace either of those thugs Agger or Skrtel in the middle of their defense, which is where I hear he's actually at his best.
