Son went for the ball, genuinely, imo. Not sure he was ever going to make it, but his intentions were for the ball and nothing more.

He's stubbed Gomes' foot and from what I can see the consequent movement of gomes, getting his stids stuck, has done the damage

You can see Gomes's leg dangling a bit at the end there, so don't watch it if you can't handle that stuff.

I’ve got to say the speed Son went in, and the tight angle looked to be ‘from behind’ for me.

He really didn't. He went haring after Gomes because of the elbow and threw in a tackle that had absolutely no chance of getting the ball. It was a revenge tackle that Son never thought would end in a broken leg and never wanted it to end in a broken leg but when you lose your head like that, you always risk and incident like today. For that, Son should feel fudging terrible.

I don't have much problem with the red. The challenge in itself might not have been a red but Son was clearly going to foul him because of the elbow. It was indisciplined, it was careless/reckless and it was deliberate. He should feel fudging terrible about it, he was completely at fault in my book.

I don't buy it. He's reacted and lost his head. To me, he realised who had the ball and decided to chase hard and tackle like that. He never intended to injure him but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he was looking for revenge.
