Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

In all honesty I do blame Poch for the state of our centre midfield anyway. He's never seemed that interested in getting a possession and passing game going from deep or at least he's never bought in any players with that as their forte. It has been my main criticism of him over the years and where I feel we missed out on winning the PL. So yes he hasn't been forced to play Winks there, there were signs last season that the midfield was in a dreadful state and admittedly we have finally addressed it with the signing of Ndombele and hopefully Lo Celso but in reality it was too little too late.

You what?? Have you forgetten the players previously that we've tried to buy under Pochettino? Schniederlin, Johannes Geis (apparently), Wijnaldum, Frenkie De Jong, then some would ad Ceballos who went to Le Scum. We can blame him for some things but not trying to upgrade our midfield is certainly NOT one of them...may i remnd what we did (or didn't do) in Summer 2018?

We bought in two players who were are relying on to change things up and on the hope that they wouldnt suffer any injuries. We should have bought in someone for the midfield 3 seasons ago but it didn't happen and by the time we are addressing it there is too much to fix all at once.

I agree you play the system that fits your players not the system you want to play. The diamond doesn't suit and I don't really see its appeal. A 4231 or genuine 433 suit the personbep we have that much more.

Indeed we should have brought in players 2/3 years ago - but again, remember summer last year? Some of us warned that by delaying the upgrades that this would lead to big problems as we seem totally uncomfortable with revolution instead of evolution (which is what we should have done).
Many on here said "doesn't matter, we have a great squad and only the very best can improve it yada, yada"...well, here we are....

The blame for these lack of upgrades in CM fall on the board and NOT on Poch imo

I can't totally blame the board, you can't force players to join or leave.
We could probably have got by if it weren't for injuries to wanyama, dier and the moose.

I partially blame the board - our dithering, agreeing deals before dropping the price offered at the last minute etc is legendary.
I do agree, you can't force any player to join, but that could be said of so many more clubs across the football world in far inferior positions to ours in recent times, but there you go...

However, the intent to upgrade the midfield was definitely there from Poch's viewpoint

Outside of City and Liverpool who has a better squad than us? Chelsea at full strength are the closest but they are going through a transition to youth that if they see through will see them take a step back to take two forward, United are no better than West Ham or Everton, and Arsenal have Aubamayeng who I hate saying it is world class Lacazzete is good and Pepe the jury is still out, Ceballos is good but only on loan and the rest of their squad is Utd, West Ham, Everton levels of average, Leicester are a dark horse that with Chelsea Utd and Arsenal’s issues could steal fourth, so yes we do have the third and at absolute worst fourth best squad, we should be finishing in the top 4 by a canter on paper at the very least, a lot of our fans really do underestimate our squad playing off how much we are overachieving, yes we are from a financial perspective but not from a actual squad perspective where we are very much on par.
Re-read what I said. I agreed that we had the third best squad but questioned whether we had the third best team. Our squad has lots of good players and cover in certain positions (I.e. attacking midfield) but the team currently has at least two glaring weaknesses that other teams are exploiting. Isn’t there some sort of saying that a team is only as good as its weakest part?

Poch won't walk. He won't readily give up 32million smackeroos. I doubt he is now an attractive proposition for a Real Madrid or Barca. His reputation is badly tarnished - to add to the already damning criticism that he hasn't actually won a single thing in his entire managerial career. He had a great team - which you could argue he either created or was fortunate to fall into ( especially Dembele and Kane) and couldn't get us over any line. His tactical nous and in-game management, with questionable substitutions has always been an Achilles heel. Has he shown he can work with the egos of superstars? He is currently having difficulty motivating some of our senior players - given his propensity to play favourites and tinkle people off.His record in the transfer market hasn't been stellar either ( I gather he dithered over Maddison, Grealish and Brooks) .

Similarly, for financial reasons, I doubt Levy will pull the trigger yet. I expect him to give Poch until at least Christmas to rediscover his mojo and give his new signings a chance to settle in and bring a new energy to the team.

However, if things haven't improved much by Christmas, I expect Poch not to be here come 2020.

If attendance decrease markedly plus sponsors bitch, I think he’s toast.
Tuesday was terrible for brand Spurs!

The money is immaterial, he will just add it to his next contact. Especially if is going to one of the elite clubs, Utd, Madrid and PSG wouldn't think twice about paying that.

As I said, I think he wouldn't get an elite club position now. Maybe only United who are increasingly desperate and may be prepared to settle for someone who would maybe get them top four rather than win something.

Really, so his four seasons of overachieving at club who spent no money for two windows and are the definition of flaky are wiped out by 12 bad games?
Can't see it myself, that's only really what fans do, and there is about a 100 pages on this post alone to prove it.

Not sure United will now!

Counts for little in the big scheme of things!
I found, its all about brand - sponsors are a pain with these sort of things!
12 recent bad things wipes out 250 older good things!
Businesses can be far more fickle than even football fans I have found!

Well look at Jose, lately he has left every club in chaos and people are still lining up to give him a job including plenty on here.

He deserves patience all the time there are signs of life, patience for the sake of it isnt actually productive for anyone

So go on the; what would be “productive” for you right now. Pretend you’re the chairman. What are YOU going to do right now, less than 24 hours before Brighton away? What?

Good point - Wolves are playing tonight, I fancy watching that.

Im all in on the Poch 2.0 plan. I dont think the whole team needs changing though. I think there needs to be some young blood bought in, older players moved out. Though I suspect my view on that is less drastic than yours.

My point is - good management mitigates those issues. Bad management exposes them.

A manager in good form would be doing much better with our squad today than Poch currently is. IMHO.

Perhaps that means packing the midfield, a low block, or something else. The point is its not happening (apparently, at least) and so performances are worse than they should be.

IMHO we should be comfortably 3rd, with Poch looking to Jan and the Summer to make the changes he needs. Nice timing after integrating NDombele and Lo Celso and Sessegnon...

Did you even see my post a day or two ago about this squad and this season?
LoCelso, Sessegnon,Ndombele, Dele, Foyth,Davies, KWP and Dier have all been unavailable at various times already this season. Half of those named have been out most of the season. Spanners you when, say, your FBs are both out, etc...

Eriksen has acted like a clam, ditto Toby who has the added bonus of having lost a step or few...

I'll typically back you to the hilt Steff, but how has Toby acted like a clam? He's been the ultimate professional for me... One of the few that hasn't let their performances suffer too much.

I know this for @nayim but if I was levy then if poch can look me in the eye and answer yes to do you want the chance to turn this around and will we come out of this stronger next season then I'd be happy to let him get on with it.
It's all down to does poch want too for me.
