Women's world cup

This whole Women’s national team idea really doesn’t sit right with me.

Imagine consistently being one of the top national teams in the world and favourites for international tournaments? Nah. No thank you.

VAR so far had been a mess. One game handball and penalty, next game nothing. Rinse and repeat.
 
Get used to it. We're going to see a lot of similar decisions. The handball didn't even alter the outcome. But with the new ruling the ref had no choice. The arm was stuck out and there was contact.

Be ready for the next stage in the evolution of the handball rule. Did it interfere with play? :mad:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - women's football has gotten a lot better over the years. I enjoyed the 2011 women's World Cup far more than the men's world Cup 2010!
 
Think there has been a penalty in every game since the time was introduced including ours. FIFA think goals equal enjoyment.

There are enough bloke's playing who carry on like big girls don't need to watch the real thing
 
Lots of "manly" women in this tournament. Perhaps this is the real thing.

The women's game is different because the players are a bit smaller and a bit slower. This means there is a bit more space on the field and that the goalkeepers are more vulnerable. I suspect this better reflects the original game in terms of the space and movement. I'd bet the female players at this world cup could out-compete male players from century ago in most respects. Pure physicality, probably not, but the modern male players would struggle there.

"Scaling Demands of Soccer According to Anthropometric and Physiological Sex Differences: A Fairer Comparison of Men’s and Women’s Soccer"

Spectators frequently harass female soccer players, and women’s soccer is frequently compared negatively to men’s soccer by writers who make the comparison without the backing of any data and without taking into account anthropometric and physiological differences between the sexes. This affects female soccer players’ self-confidence negatively and contributes to an undeservedly negative image of women’s soccer. In the present paper, we argue that most differences between men’s and women’s soccer can be explained by women having to adapt to rules and regulations that are suited for men and their physical attributes. Thus, games are much more demanding for women. Furthermore, we argue that if men had to play with a degree of adaptation similar to that which women do today, they would have to alter their style of play radically. As support for our argument, we scale game demands for male and female soccer players according to anthropometric and physiological differences in order to highlight the differences, and use these to predict what would be the most appropriate adaptations. Finally, we show that our predictions are largely supported by the scarce pool of comparable data across the sexes.
 
So it seems that the FA are tinkled at us for giving the US womens team the use of our facilities prior to the world cup. It seems that we should've sort permission from the FA first or outright sent them packing to another country to train. I honestly don't care as with any tournament, teams will want to use our facilities and I'm sure will do so in the future. I'm guessing the England women had the use of St Georges Park so we didn't deprive them.

On a seperate note, I thought it was a pretty classless victory for the US women the other night. They came out afterwards essentially saying that the Thai team weren't up to the standard of the rest of the teams as an excuse for completely eviscerating them. OTT goal celebrations aside, there's just no sportsmanship here. The German's could've posted double digits against Brazil if they had wanted to a few years back, but decided to not kick the poor bastards when they were down.
