Harry Kane MBE

For some reason, I've always imagined top athletes with small kids to have nannies hired 24 hours, as there is simply no fudging way they can perform on a high level week in week out without getting enough sleep. I just can't imagine a professional like Kane not getting enough sleep - so crucial, and he must know it.

I've been thinking the same myself - then again, being a footballer in itself, doesn’t demand as many working hours as an ordinary nine-to-five job. There's plenty of time for rest, and surely no morning stress with two parents getting ready for work and a long and tiresome commute. I can't imagine his wife is working, and I'm sure she handles most of the night time duty.

Not so sure about that, we've been here before. I seem to recall other occasions when this forum has been swamped by the 'needs a rest' narrative only for him to keep going then launch himself on one of his amazing scoring runs.

Keep the faith!
This is true for sure, but he has never looked off colour for so long as he has done. People were noticing he was off colour at least a couple of months before end of last season, it continued all the way into the World Cup he still looked off colour, and it’s continued into this season. So to say keep the faith is all well and good, but it’s a massive concern....

Yep for sure this has been going on longer than previous spells but I still live in hope.

Besides there's no guarantee giving Harry a rest would work, he might still find scoring difficult even after a break. Whereas by continuing to play he might suddenly start scoring again.

Don't forget, following a decent rest he'd still need time to get back to full match sharpness which in itself carries its own set of dangers. How many times to we hear of players injuring themselves on the training ground as they work towards coming back?

So I say no, let's leave it to Poch to decide how best to manage his current poor spell. He knows his players better than any of us on this forum.

Exactly no one doubts he has been off form for a couple of games in the past, however he has not looked fit since he came back from injury and that was in March of last season. If you add up the games he has played since coming back then its a far longer period then he has had before.

In 23 games for club and country since March he's netted 15 times, which though well short of his best form is still some going for a striker struggling for match sharpness.

I’m not saying he should be rested,or claim to know what the solution is better than Poch - I just think it’s a concern. But to say just keep the faith wears a bit thin, when this worry has been persisting from February/March time and has still had no real rest from football....

As i said earlier in the thread its not his lack of goals that is the problem, its his other work that seems off. He looks slow and ponderous sine he came back and his first touch does not seem to be as good.

Most of his goals for club and country of late have been penalties and close range (that fantastic header against Utd was better),whilst missing a lot of chances I’d expect him to score even whilst acknowledging all strikers miss chances. With the amount of chances our team creates he’s is always going to score whether he’s on form or not. When he’s on his game he looks like he could score a bucketload of goals in one game, he hasn’t given off that impression for a while - well to me anyway....

No one is denying he looks slow and ponderous, but if everyone on this forum can see that then surely Poch can too. For my part I'm happy to leave it to him to find the best solution.

I think players' form goes in cycles as opposition coaches work out where their strengths are, and as our players look to adapt they go through a period of struggling to look natural before looking really confident.

For instance, Dele last year was trying to adapt to playing deeper. There were a fair few games where he didn't look natural, where he was trying his tricks in the wrong areas, and it all looked a bit wrong. But it was a vital development period for him as now he should be able to recognise that if the opposition treats him one way, he can do something else and be just as effective.

I'm assuming it's partly that with Kane, and partly the fact that he takes some time to get going in a season regardless. He's adapting to playing up top with a strike partner, and is trying to work out how best to play deeper as a result while still remaining a goal threat. His timing will return. And Fergie used to say to Carrick 'you don't start playing until its raining outside'...he knew Carrick was better once the season had kicked into gear in the autumn. Kane is probably similar, but needs to be played into it.

He'll be fine.

It seems with regards to the Kane debate that 'pace and trickery' counts for double for some when it comes to evaluating a players all round game - from what i can see he's as every bit as important/effective outside of scoring goals as any other high scoring striker - plus he actually is quite 'trickery' if you watch him, just has zero elegance when bundling the ball through defenders...

The video below is more than just a goal reel and shows his all round game quite well.

Was from last season as well where he wasn't really at his best either for large parts of it.

watched the whole video - harry's passing range is amazing :) thank you for sharing

I said unlikely, not impossible! I hope you’re bang on with the last bit!

If that isn't WC I don't know what is. Iniesta would have been proud of those passes.

Can you hear that high pitched whining in the distance??

If you can, don't be alarmed. It's just a wave of Scousers feeding off of unfair support for us.

Gary Neville nails it.

He needs a break, non stop playing since 2015.
So. For how long? A fortnight? He had that after the WC, so obviously nowhere near long enough. So a month? Six weeks? He'll then need another fortnight after that to regain match fitness, so eight weeks minimum out. And still no guarantee he will have regained his sharpness when he does get back.

And all the while he's out we are without our regular goalscorer. That could make a significant difference to where we finish at the end of the season.

Remember every time in the past he's looked jaded he's come through without a break and started scoring freely again.

Oh and Gary Neville. The chap who fell flat on his face trying to manage in Spain. The ex-United man suggesting what's best for Tottenham.

Yeah right.

Gary Neville that’s won everything possible in the domestic game and spoke first hand how he broke down after playing too much football back to back.

Think he knows what he’s talking about
