Grealish

Maddison was £25 million and he was the better player last year. Villa know they have us though so are going to pull as much out of Levy as possible.

"Have us" what?

Its not like Grealish is a game changer for us, the missing piece of the puzzle, or someone intended to take us up a level.

Grealish is a "lets see if he can step up if we give him a chance" buy. Someone to fill out the squad.

We can walk away from this with no issues whatsoever.

EDIT: but yes - I think Maddison is about the right benchmark.

I absolutely love this.

Go down the first few comments:
"What reports mate?"

"Sources on my Facebook page mate, but like everyone says, wait for him to hold a Spurs shirt up "

So puts it up like an actual article/statement to fact, but then has the decency to say its FB BS

You're right but he will sign for us. Villa have to sell - they have a 50m FFP hole to fill as far as I recall. Grealish plugs 50%-60% of that for them. Unless someone comes in and gazumps us, we're just negotiating to see who will blink first.

If Grealish is a Villa player on Friday morning, I'll get an Arsenal tattoo on my arse.

I suspect you quoted the wrong post of mine.

This one was more about the way people try and live off of the kudos of being in the know. Farming followers etc...

The other one - "have us" what?...

Well I dont disagree with you. Im fairly sure we will get him in. And for the reasons you cite, as well as the fact we have no desperate need for him, it will be more on our terms than Villas. Which was my point really, they have nothing on us.

I hadn't really paid much attention to Grealish over the years so i can't make a firm judgement. However i did watch parts of the game yesterday and i have to admit that the guy's got a lot more talent than i thought. He showed plenty of great touches and moments of skill.I did see plenty of question mark areas:

Workrate: plenty of standing still. A bit too much for my liking
Defensive awareness: He let a few people run untracked, and one time only made a half hearted effort to recover
Holding on to the ball for too long: Though to be fair he didn't really lose possesion
Haircut: I really can't stand that haircut. I felt annoyed having to look at it and i don't want to feel that way if he joins
Socks: I'm not a fan of the whole socks down thing. Just pull them up please. And get a haircut while you're at it

I'm not really worried as a lot of these things can be coached. He certainly has a natural base to start from

There was some discussion earlier in this thread about his position. He definitely didn't play as a deep lying midfielder. He was a CM trending no.10

Overall i was pretty impressed. For a sensible price, yeah why not go for it.

I think that it is nice that you feel comfortable sharing your kinks with us.

I’m a sharing kind of geezer especially when it comes to tea ladies.
Which reminds me of the excellent Dinnerladies series from the genius that was Victoria Woods.

They still May gamble as Bournemouth etc have.

If they honestly think he’s the player that can be the difference they won’t sell and gamble on promotion.

You'll wear yourself out like PL1 did with that Mrs Brown's Boys boxset

My initial reluctance to getting him was that I thought he was a bellend, having seen the pictures of him passed out drunk etc.

Never doubted his talent, but rather his application/mentality. Which, to be fair to him, appears to have improved a lot - so Ive no issue now.

As a footballer I always saw him as problematic in that he doesnt seem to sit easily in any position, rather in between. Like - advanced midfield, as opposed to central or attacking midfield, if you know what I mean?

The issues you outline though give me comfort, because they are all things Poch will sort out - and quickly.

Though I have to admit Im a fan of the socks.

It must be difficult to play when an impending transfer is happening, the risk of getting injured scuppering it - at least he didn’t play the old ‘my head isn’t the right place card’.

This must've been what Poch was talking about in May
So perhaps the approach should have been ‘if we sign Modric and Bale whilst selling Sissoko and GKN before Friday I’ll get Levy’s face tattooed on my arse?’

I could probably live with this. But surely not the haircut though???

He is a talent no two ways about it.

You can look at him last night and judge him on that but he was doing the work of two men which in our team he wont have to as the ability around him is better. IF he played the Alli role in our side he would not be like last night having to work hard like he was on edge of his own box (note he was a number 10). At times last night he was responsilble, due to short comings of the team to break up play in own third, set an attack and get on the move to end the moves he started. NO defined role and a team lacking the same quality and he was still one of their best players.

Get him in the final third more times than not, which the Spurs system will allow and you will see this guy flourish.

His quality on the ball, time, touch and everything else you want in a top player is there 100% and people can hark on abotu the Championship but I prefer that under his belt than than coming through a youth system, he is a man
