Summer 2018 transfer thread

Plenty and I strongly believe that, football is so shameless and littered with examples of it.

Managers know his quality and will take a view he sulked to leave and that will be a non issue when he gets the move he wanted to.

The fight for success is so intense managers many manager look past all that crap

Maybe? But in Alderweirelds shoes I would certainly not rely on that.

Taking the Modric approach virtually guarantees my worth, rather than hoping for people to be unscrupulous clams.

Especially as, above all else, managers want to win. Who knows just how badly a year out might reflect at Man U level teams?

Its not a case of blaming anyone, its a case of a player who will be 30 and not played football for a year.

Swings and roundabouts: he's less likely to get injured.

Whatever, the only good outcomes here are a straight swap with Martial and bringing in DeLigt/Maguire/Mina or whoever, or Toby signing a new contract. There's nothing good about Toby staying while bad feeling persists.

That may well be true. But I'm not sure it makes enough difference to his future salary prospects to change Toby's stance (if that's the issue).

Well - I suppose we get caught up a bit here as well. The job is meant to be a vocation, he is meant to love the game and want to play - that must factor as well. At least I hope it would, if he didnt have even that in him I would most certainly sideline him!

I think it is fair to say, assuming he wants a move to a Man U level club (and subsequent wages), he stands a better chance of getting it if he shows how good he can be all season - as opposed to taking a year off in a sulk.

All ifs and buts, of course, who knows if he'll even be here next Friday!?

Let’s just fudging sign someone!!! :D

LEVY OUT!!

Ok but on the flip do you think Toby without a new deal staying gives us the same player as his first two years? I see it as highly unlikely

tbh id rather sell Toby now for 50 mill rather than wait a year and risk him joining Arse or Chelski for 25 mill.....that would be a kick in the teeth

in a year he is free to join whoever he wants. He is a top defender with a good 3 or 4 years left in him

I dont care why he is motivated, so long as he is motivated and plays as well as he can.

If last years its because of his unwavering love of Spurs, and this coming season because he is desperate to play for Man U, makes no odds so long as we get the performances.

I think we shouldnt concern ourselves to much about the what ifs over a year away, and just do what we can to be the best success this coming season.

Toby, on form, this season - could be the difference between winning things and not.

And, we also have a further year to see if he will sign a new deal.

Or we can just flog him now and bank an extra Danny Ings.

Not really, thats why Toby and his manager negotiated the fee for next year, he will be alot cheaper than this year so his wage demands won't change.

So Dembele is gonna stay then?
Toby and his manager negotiated the fee for next year in what, 2014? The world has moved on a lot since then. Firstly he turned into a world-class player, but then he started getting medium term injuries, and, by many accounts, upset Pochettino very badly with his behaviour on a new contract last year. And he, apparently, has a bit of previous for that at former clubs. As far as I'm aware only one club has come in for him in the last few months. I've already set out what I think the risks are for him in running down his contract. If he were a couple of years younger and not susceptible to medium term injuries, those risks would be less, but a season and a half of very little football at his age means that any other clubs interested in him would be taking a gamble, and that would be reflected in what he could negotiate as a salary even with a lower transfer fee. I would expect Manchester United to have moved on in a year's time too. Don't forget that Foyth could not get into the CL squad when he joined because he was not H-G, and MP has stated very clearly that he rates him very highly and expects him to surprise some with his quality. So Toby's place in the CL squad without a new contract is very vulnerable.
With regard to Dembele, you stated "I don't see Dembele coming out either to clarify his future, he was quick to come out and say he would not make a decision till after the world cup". That still doesn't make sense to me as the World Cup is now long gone, so he has had weeks to state his intentions after the WC. I think his transfer value is already far lower than Toby's, he is also injury prone and is already 31. His position is for those reasons even more vulnerable than Toby's. Whether he goes is in my view dependent entirely on whether the club receives an acceptable offer. If not we will run his contract down, not him.

So Dembele says he is not going to make a decision on future till after the world cup

World Cups Over

So he should have decided by now

He has not

i tend to agree with this, I think the issue is IF he is prepared to sit it out for a year we really have no choice but to pay him whilst he waits for his big move (not sure we can have any say on the club if multiple trigger the very public release clause?)
