Summer 2018 transfer thread

I get that. I just dont think its that likely to happen.

We seem to be more of the mind that we can make that player.

And, when you think about it, we are arent we? Look at the growth in maturity and experience of this team over the last couple of years.

Again, by all means supplement that, but I dont see it as essential. More, nice to have.

Yeah I just feel like it’s the one missing piece of the jigsaw - someone of around 28 years of age who’s got the experience of winning titles. Doesn’t have to be someone in the AM position that costs around 100m plus, and hopefully moving into new stadium we could begin to afford this type of player now and again. Could be a DM/CB whatever - just that added bit of knowhow who’s been there and done it all and is operating at the top of his game. That would compliment what we have perfectly with everything else we have for me....

I think it would be essential for such a player to be able to get into our starting lineup on merit and ability and not because of just his "experience"

Well both really, I thought having Davids really helped the players. But fair enough, if we could start a season well that would be great but it must be ridiculously hard physically to maintain our send half of season form for a whole season - especially with having a lot of youngsters who are going to be inconsistent to some extent...

I agree but we are in a different place now and I do not see the need for a Davids or Naybet type signing. Where we can upgrade, we should, so for me it is quality over experience.

When we talk about winning mentality and experience. What had Keane won before he joined United?

As I said before, we don't need someone with experience of winning titles. We need a quality player that will be able to get in the team at least half the time and, more importantly, have a burning desire to win. Someone who will not accept anything less than 110% in every game from himself and his teammates. Someone who will not allow a sluggish performance for even one minute of a game. Because that is what has cost us points. Not the ability of our squad.

Seriously though, I do not agree that is the issue. The difference between us and the champions the last couple of seasons has been that we have had a slow start. I think that Poch is right to time our conditioning to peak for the run in. We are getting better at winning ugly and grinding out results, when we have to, but could do with a little bit more. Other than that, continuing to improve the squad, could push us over the line.

The slow start thing - while its obviously "a thing", I dont think its conditioning.

Its more getting up to speed mentally I think, and a little luck. We generally perform well enough to take something out of games, but it just goes against us. Look at Utd early this season, should absolutely had a draw, played well enough to win really, and came away with nothing thanks to a route 1 goal and Toby getting caught out (rarely happens).

I like the look of 20 year old Kieran Tierney at Celtic.

Was thinking the same thing myself this weekend. Think he fits the right profile, age and experience plus potential and gettable. Sadly I think we will be stuck with Rose a chubby disinterested player whose best days are behind him.

I’m not talking about signing someone just for their experience. This started because of the discussion about Bale, he has the quality but has that added stature because of what he’s also achieved in the game - fair enough if people don’t want him because of the injury problems etc. Just saying a player in his peak who has that experience to add to the obvious quality could help us over the line. All I ever hear is excuses, the main one is luck when it comes down to why we don’t win this or that and I just don’t buy it - you make your own luck. Just think having at least one player who’s experienced winning titles would help tip things in our favour a little more....

There are many players with the quality that have experience of winning titles, I never suggested signing a player purely because of their experience. But we have a severe lack of players in our squad who have won things, so signing someone of the required ability who has won a few things in their career wouldn’t hurt....

Why do we start so poorly compared to our finish? Is there a noticeable drop in the way we press in early games compared to the second half of the season games?
