Summer 2018 transfer thread

I think Maddison plays a different position to Hazard and Pedro. I see both of those players as ones who cut in from a side position. Maddison is a player who I see as somebody who will play through the centre. I don't see him as a player who plays quite as high up the pitch as Alli, I see him as a play-maker in the Eriksen mould.

Exactly how he plays when I see him
Eriksen esque

If it's true, it's very possible we have decided who our second striker option is - Son.

So you need a squad deep and versatile enough to cover the front four adequately and with a mix of styles.
Including Eriksen playing CM against certain styles of team. We have really good and differing attacking options, but we do lack a killer pass alternative if Eriksen is marked well. Alli and Lamela are good, but have other strengths that are needed when Eriksen is taken out of play.

I don’t disagree, but with doubts about Conte staying they could well be needing a player like Maddison next year if they switch formations. I think Chelsea may be a move too soon for him anyway, but it wouldn’t entirely surprise me. Leicester feels just right if he doesn’t come to us.

Wouldn’t. be surprised to see Bernard from Shaktar end up in the prem this summer

Free transfer and Chelsea will offload hazard or Willian so ready made replacement

One of the great things about Eriksen is his ability to play that role on either side or on the centre, or in a deeper midfield role, or as a part of an attacking trio. No idea if Maddison can do the same, but if he can it would be massive. The flexibility that offers with Eriksen is huge for us.

Have not followed them but has he even played Barkley since he signed him and does he look any good?

Aaaaabsolutely love James Maddison, and he would be perfect to have with us to learn from Eriksen. Not sure when he gets into the team though, it needs Son, Eriksen, Dele, Lamela and Moura all to not be fit and firing. I think JM is good enough that he should be playing fairly regularly in the Prem. A move to an Everton not managed by Allardyce or Leceister might be best for him as good progression.

I also get the sense Chelsea could be a good move for him. Pedro’s getting older, doubts about Hazard sticking around, Chelsea moving towards a model of signing players with resale value. I’m not saying JM is as good as Hazard etc but that’s a move that wouldn’t entirely surprise me.

Norwich is my local team though. Above all I’d quite like it if they got back up!

I dont see us signing anyone for the 3 positions behind Kane this summer unless either (i) 1 of the 5 you mention leaves or (ii) the incoming player can either also play in CM (so cover Dembele) or can pay CF...so either someone like Andre Gomes or Rashford (not necessarily them before people pick holes with those names!). From what I've seen of Maddison, he doesn't fall into that second category

I think we should look at Jay Rodriguez if Llorente leaves. To really have a good go at winning one of the big trophies we need a strong squad. You can't have too many good players

He's probably too far in his career for us to sign (they'd want a price which we wouldnt be prepared to pay for a 28 year old) however I agree with your comments after that. There are some on here that say that Poch likes to work with a small squad etc however he's always been financially constrained in his career so far and whilst there will always be some constraints, though will be a bit easier in future.

I believe Sessegnon will be coming.

What that will mean, is Rose is going. If we could get Martial to come the other way, he'd could quite easily lead the line just like Sonny does but with more power to go with the pace. And let's face it Jose doesn't particularly like him.

Mourinho doesn't 'like any of his players at one time or another!
Now as much as I like Hugo....................

Is this some sort of inside joke on the forum or are you actually serious?

Not sure Sessegnon potentially coming in is related to Rose leaving. Sessegnon seems to play most of his games further forward and I'm not convinced at 18 he's ready to be our only option to Davies at left back.

Yes, pretending to take DeleHarry's posts seriously is some kind of running inside joke.

We started the season playing wingbacks, I could very well see Sessegnon employed in that capacity.

He is plenty good enough to be back up (KWP and Jan are options as well) and imo he would be better off starting at LB and then showing Poch (like Bale did with AVB) that he could be better suited further forward.

Davies is pretty sound injury wise as well.

Put it this way, if we can put up with the mixed performances of our 2 RBs this season then Sessegnon at LB should be acceptable.

What's the problem? After all his injury problems he has returned to form at West Bromwich. Poch worked wonders with him at southampton. He can play centre forward and on the left cutting in. PL proven. Scores goals and can asssit. At 28 he should be at his peak.

It's just a suggestion.

Hitler made some suggestions in his time too...
